RE: Kodi Media Player Options with Full 3D & HD Audio - hdmkv - 2016-02-26

@Stereodude, all my 3D rips are ISO's, and I have zero issues. I do movie-only ISO rips via AnyDVDHD & tsMuxeR, and mux in only the forced sub track when present... so, it's no different than a movie-only MKV. I prefer latter, but for 3D, more media players support ISO containers than they do MVC MKV. All my 2D content however, all MKV's.

On another note, looks like Raspberry Pi 3 rumors are true. See here. The FCC filing has pics, documents that specifically mention Pi 3.

Okay, so I should have added the caveat that it can't play back the original disc structure from ISO or folders. Kodi's Blu-ray support is fundamentally broken, like every other open source player. Only VLC is trying to fix it. In order to watch the movies correctly you have to process the disc ahead of time and manually sort out the subtitles. Popping a disc in a drive with AnyDVD HD running and getting proper playback on some titles isn't possible. I don't really love menus, but I don't want to have process movies ahead of time.

With AnyDVD's demise (and DVDFab's subsequently), I'm really hoping something takes its place... hopefully not long from now.

RPi3 confirmation, though not by Pi foundation yet.

Why would this mean the demise of Kodi? Are all my Blu-ray MKV rips suddenly going up in smoke?

The only reason I use DVDFab is to rip a disc that MakeMKV has troubles with and then most times so does DVDFab anyways as the disc is physically messed up.

DVDFab have been in the gunsights of the MPAA and the USA sheriff for quite a while now.

DVDFab even had relocated a bunch of their servers back to China and get them out of Europe in Feb 2014 to continue business, so this all comes as no surprise really.

In reality, even 8-bit medium bitrate 1080p HEVC video upscaled by a decent TV looks nicely detailed and would be fine for most mainstream Kodi users.

Just puts a hold on any UHD rips coming. MakeMKV is good just sometimes slow for new encryption methods and AACS keys. It wont ruin anything just put a slow down on new movies in the coming months.

What is even more sad is did anyone see it said AACS 2.0 has an option for a disc to phone home to make sure its allowed to be played that is just wrong.

I'd call that an rpi2 with wifi and bluetooth. Not sure what deserves the "3" Wink

According to heise.de: MagPi states it will be at 1,2 GHz and 64-bit

I am not KODI media player user. But would like to try it for myself. How can I get that?

RE: Kodi Media Player Options with Full 3D & HD Audio - hdmkv - 2016-02-27

Download Kodi on a PC/laptop and try it out first, before buying any media player.

Yeah people keep saying 'hope it does 4k', 'hope it does hevc', 'hope it does atmos'.

Not much chance if its based on the same soc. I wouldn't use wifi on a kodi box anyway, but bt would be useful.

Q10 arrived from Futeko today. Still suffers from 29.97/59.94 stuttering like the Q5....but 23.976 seems fine (I did notice some microstuttering on the Q5 from time to time -- same ISOs play fine on Q10). Weird!

Looks like I still need to keep my Popcorn Hour A400 for 29.97/59.94 content, le sigh!

RE: Kodi Media Player Options with Full 3D & HD Audio - hdmkv - 2016-02-28

29.97/59.94 is noticeably better on upcoming Q10 Pro, but still not 100%. Have let HiMedia know. With 23.976, I haven't noticed microstuttering on current-gen Q5/Q10 or Q10 Pro.
