It makes sense.

Yep, thanks for correcting me guys Smile. Container should not make a difference, but it seems to w/some players.

Dear community, I'm thinking about updating hardware (current setup in signature) in near future and playing of 3D mvc in mkv container is important. I'd like to ask, do you not recommend to build diy htpc but rather buy Intel nuc? 4K support is not relevant yet but perhaps I should consider that also.
Reason for me to go diy route is that I'd like to choose chase for appeareance reasons (I'm in love with the hd-plex chases) and that there's a possibility to add blu-ray drivers, cards etc. And diy project are fun to do.
I would have to buy just motherboard, cpu and memory, all other parts I have already.

for price comparison, I could get Intel NUC NUC6i3SYH for 332 € (+memory) or NUC6i5SYK 448€ (+memory) or

235€/330€
  • AsRock H110M-HDS, mATX 59€
  • Intel Skylake i3-6100, LGA1151, 3,7GHz, 3MB, Boxed 129€ / Intel Skylake i5-6500, LGA1151, 3,2GHz, 6MB, Boxed 224€
  • Crucial 8GB (2x4GB) Ballistix Tactical, DDR4 2666MHz, CL16, 1.2V 47€

Guys, check out the new 'Ghostbusters' movie. Liked it better than I thought I would (as I'm a fan of the original). Excellent 3D, w/plenty of in-your-face ghostly pop-outs! Good deal of the 3D is into the black bars of this scope movie (like w/'Pixels'). BTW, this is a right-eye first BD (added to list in post #1).

Watched this over the weekend. My son liked it, I agree the 3d was decent although I liked the original better myself. I thought this lacked a lot of storyline and of course my son didn't understand the jokes because he never saw the original one. I'm not sure what you mean by the 3d is in the black bars? I always remove the black bars from my movies while watching.

Could be great. But, no one here has tried out a Kaby Lake-based box yet.

And, agree, the original is better.

That's quite a clever way of utilizing 3D in a 2.35:1 ratio on a 16:9 display.

I think what you really mean is its coming out of the screen, I'm betting if you stretched it vertically to eliminate black bars, you would still see the same effect.

RE: Kodi Media Player Options with MVC/frame-packed 3D & HD Audio - timstephens24 - 2016-10-18

Why would you stretch it and ruin the aspect ratio?

RE: Kodi Media Player Options with MVC/frame-packed 3D & HD Audio - robl45 - 2016-10-18

I like my full screen. Personal preference

RE: Kodi Media Player Options with MVC/frame-packed 3D & HD Audio - movie78 - 2016-10-18

If you are using a cinemascope lens, then you are only blocking the black bars.

RE: Kodi Media Player Options with MVC/frame-packed 3D & HD Audio - robl45 - 2016-10-18

I'm not but it really isn't a big deal like people make it out to be. Some movies a little worse than others but doesn't bother me and my son doesn't notice.

How would you get the same effect if you're literally removing the extra image laid on top of the bars?

You stretch vertically? I hate with an absolute passion cropping an image but distorting the whole picture to remove black bars that a TV has around the outside anyway completely blows my mind!

Does anyone know what other 3D 2.35:1 movies have this effect?
