RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - stoolzo - 2016-11-08

better of sacking off madvr for 4k stuff, i have all my 4k stuff names 4k.mkv which opens in a MPC-BE, please smoothly and hardware decodes, you 970 should be able to hardware decode outside of DSPLAYER as long as you use the standard renderer.

Use KODI DS just for 1080p and 720p stuff and use an external player for 4k, hopefully madvr will get updated at some point and we'll be able to hardware decide 4k stuff.

When playing 720p and 1080p videos there is no dropped, delayed frames. But when i try to play a 4k movie (10bit HEVC x265). I have like 500 dropped frames in 30 secs and cpu usage is 100% on all cores. Ive tried with different settings but without succses. So what settings should i use for 4k movies?

My current settings for 1080p and 720p videos:

Chroma upscaling: nnedi3 (32neurons) anti-ringing filter ON
Image upscaling: DXVA2
Image downscaling: DXVA2
Double luma: NNEDI3 (32 neurons)
Smooth motion: OFF
Dithering: Error diffusion option 2

My PC:

Motherboard: M5a97 le r2.0
CPU: AMD FX 6200 clocked @4.42Ghz
GPU: GTX 970 4GB
RAM: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz

TV: Samsung 65" UE65JS8500

4K videos only require chroma upscaling.

Are you sure your CPU is powerful enough to decode the video? 4K HEVC needs a very fast CPU. And yes DSPlayer can play these videos. The GTX 970 won't hardware decode, though, so software is being used.

Change chroma upscaling to super-xbr or Jinc.

I tried finding some information about my cpu decoding 4k HEVC but didnt find anything. Im pretty new to all of this madvr and rendering etc etc.. so i dont really understand it. But my tv netflix app uses HEVC x265 right? So if my cpu in the tv can decode HEVC x265 4k video on netflix. My cpu in my htpc has to be able to decode it? But my cpu is running at 100% on all six cores when trying to play the 4k video file so it seems like the cpu is to weak.

I tried using dlna to stream the video to the tv having the tv decode and play the file but the tv couldnt handle the 4k video either without a bunch of dropped frames. (I have a 1Gbit/s internet connection between the pc and tv so i should be able to stream the 65Gb video file to my tv without a problem)

I noticed that the 4k video file im trying to play has a bit rate of 60.1 Mbps. Is that a "normal" bit rate for a 4k movie?

I tried setting chroma upscaling to super-xbr and Jinc. But still alot of dropped frames. Cpu usage on all cores at 100%.

That high bitrate is "normal." Your CPU is too weak. You need a GTX 1070.

Because my TV is a 720p (an old plasma). Should I change the settings?

no, if thats your TV res its correct, just suprised anyone is still using a non HD TV.

720p IS HD, 1080 Full HD.

Just an FYI Tongue

And 2160p/4k is ultra HD

Just another FYI [emoji14]

if it hardware decodes in mpc-be it will in dsplayer. just need to setup lavfliters inside dsplayer as they are setup in mpc-be.

madvr has nothing to do with 4k hevc stuff. thats the filters before madvr. it works great on my setup, but then again my gpu can decode HEVC.

It can decode HEVC, but not the 10 bit. using the cuvid due to trhe hybrid decoding. But its not worth much.

RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - spencerjford - 2016-11-23

I can not post a link to a file that plays smoothly, because I'm not taking the time to chop a file up so i can. but I have an intel 4790k and an rx480 gpu. madvr has nothing to do with any of it. it's all the filters before it.

i will say they are 23.964 (whatever it is) files and not 60 frames per second files, but i have not run into any of them for the movies and tv shows I watch. I also have an nvidia 970 which can also handle it, but I don't like to since it's not native decoding and takes away from the processing power I could use for madvr.

You have to put the checkmark into CUVID on lavfilters video filter to get it to hardware decode HEVC. (but cuvid is not recommended for decoding anymore. as it uses more resources on the video card. But it CAN do it.

So in KODI under settings, video, DSPlayer, click on - Video decoder and then Hardware decoder to use, and you can change it to NVIDIA CUVID. But you will probably notice you will need to lower your madvr scaling and other settings to lighter algorithms.

RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - stoolzo - 2016-11-23

you dont need to cut anything up, just find a HEVC demo file, there are loads all over the web, post a link, when you've found one that plays smoothly let us all know, someone else said as much but then failed to provide proof.

RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - spencerjford - 2016-11-23

how about you post links to ones you can't make work and i'll see if they work for me?

because i haven't found any hevc demo files that haven't worked.

all the ones from this page played fine, http://jell.yfish.us/ . 4K, HEVC 10 bit vids

i've played 4k hevc 60 fps to 23 fps vids, all running smooth, only get a about 10 dropped frames at the start up, (due to starting them up from my server to my machine, so i always get that, 4k hevc or 360 xvid files.

edit, the 400mbp file doesn't run smoothly, but that's unrealistic anyways, at least for movie/tv show storage rates.
