RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - Fail$tyle420 - 2018-02-17

Thanks for keeping this fork guys!  I decided to give this a try to use SVP since my TV died on me and need a replacement in the meantime.  It took me a couple hours to dial it all in and have it running perfectly!  Awesome guides and work in this thread!  So now onto my question: Can you update the LAV filters located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Kodi\system\players\dsplayer\LAVFilters by replacing with newer versions?

RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - toki5 - 2018-02-18

htpc updater is an easy way to update all of your required things. One click and you're done

RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - Fail$tyle420 - 2018-02-18

Reading how it updates, it won't work in the directory I asked about.  Also, tried it just for giggles and it errors out.  Besides that, I like to manually update my stuff.  Thanks though!

RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - toki5 - 2018-02-18

you just place it on your boot drive, not in the kodi folder and it should work. that's how it works for me.

No, reading how it's used I would have to change the location where to find LAV filters from default (Program files) to kodi folder in the source code and compile myself.  So it won't work with the directory I wanted, seeing as how I'm not gonna compile it.  I downloaded an already compiled exe and tried running it from downloads folder, but it errors out saying something wrong with a python file.  Maybe it doesn't like Windows 10 or maybe I'm missing some sort of dependency (doubt it since nothing is mentioned and I have all c++ runtimes installed), but either way I don't like automatic anything just for the simple fact that I do alot of my personal computer work under the influence of something and will screw something up Tongue Tongue Tongue

@ Fail$tyle420

Yes - download the latest LAV and install as usual. As by your post you are using the 32bit version of Dsplayer, navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\LAV Filters\x86, and copy the files over to  C:\Program Files (x86)\Kodi\system\players\dsplayer\LAVFilters.

If however, you are using the 64bit version of Dsplayer, you need to copy over the 64bit Lav files (C:\Program Files (x86)\LAV Filters\x64)

Thank you!  I figured it would work, but wasn't sure if it was hardcoded in some way to only accept the version that is packaged with Dsplayer!

(2018-02-16, 18:01)ElJimador Wrote: Hi again.  Another noob question, sorry.  I'm trying to set up VideoPlayer merits rules under the DSPlayer settings so that DSPlayer will be the default player only for 4K HEVC while the regular Kodi player will be used for everything else.  I've used the playercorefactory.xml to launch external players in the past so I'm not totally new to this and it appears this is just another way to the same thing through the GUI, however I'm not understanding the basic logic here.  Does "VideoPlayer" here refer to DSPlayer or to DVDPlayer (that's still the name of the default Kodi player, right?) -- ie. am I creating a rule for everything DSPlayer will play by default, or am I creating rules for the exceptions that DVDPlayer will open instead?  So far I've tried it both ways and DSPlayer still opens everything no matter what I enter.

Treating VideoPlayer to mean DSPlayer (ie. affirmative rule):
rule name: 4K HEVC | file name: *.4k* | video codec: h265 | video button: on

Treating VideoPlayer to mean DVDPlayer (ie. exceptions rules):
rule name: H264 | video codec: h264 | video button: on
rule name: VC-1 | video codec: vc-1 | video button: on
rule name: MPEG2 | video codec: mpeg 2 | video button: on

As I said, either way I try it's still opening DSPlayer for everything.  So which is the right approach and what am I missing?
Alright I figured out the logic (VideoPlayer = former DVDPlayer and the merit rules tell it what to open in that vs. DSPlayer).  However it doesn't appear the Plex for Kodi add-on will let you use both players to open up different file types.  Setting the rules by video codec didn't work at all even in DSPlayer.  Setting the rules by tags in file names, I was originally doing them incorrectly as in my first example above (ie. *.dvd*, etc.) and both in DSPlayer and through the Plex for Kodi add-on, it would then open all files with VideoPlayer regardless of the rule.  Then when I corrected them to .*dvd.* etc., DSPlayer read the rules correctly and works fine but through the Plex for Kodi add-on, everything now opens in DSPlayer only.

So it appears no matter what that Plex for Kodi makes you use all one player or the other, not both.  So it's not a DSPlayer issue per se but if anyone here has attempted a similar setup and got it to work, I'd still appreciate any help I can get.  Otherwise I'll search around the Plex forum or if there's a Plex for Kodi board or thread here to see someone there can help me.
Why would you want to use kodi's player when you could just use dsplayer for better quality video?  I guess I don't understand why you would purposefully use DSPlayer and then choose to use a lesser quality video player to display your videos.

I simply opt to use external filters in DSPlayer settings and then I don't need to copy anything and use my regular LAVFilters/madVR/whatever installation.

RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - Eddie Strike - 2018-02-20

I somehow broke my DSPlayer for 4K HDR playback.... had it working fine for months, but now it stutters like crazy. No idea what I changed?

MPC-BC plays back 4K HDR perfectly with the same MadVR install, but DSPlayer shits the bed instantly.

I tried wiping the install and reinstalling, but it didn't help.

Any ideas? Sad

Have you updated to the latest version of Madvr? I ask because the Dsplayer settings for Madvr have been updated to the latest version I believe - could be your issue.

RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - Eddie Strike - 2018-02-20

I am on the latest version of everything.

I had big hopes for DSPlayer becoming my main media player. But if HDR 4K doesn't work I can't use it.

Would love to figure this out if anyone has suggestions? (MPC-BE plays it perfectly fine but not DSP)

RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - mclingo - 2018-02-21

if it works fine in MPC-BE then it must be someting in DS, although i've had similar issues myself int he past. Few things to check.

First post your control+J screen, lets see what your settings look like in MADVR and how your rendering time is, ideally you need to be under 40ms for smooth playback ive found.

which gfx card do you have?

1. Make sure you've set DS to use MADVR database and not local settings to ensure you are using identical MADVR settings to MPC BE.
2. Try a completely new install using portable in a completely different location, I only use portable now, I found full installs were kept screwing up, portables are easier to backup and reinstall.
3. check you are not downscaling by accident, ensure your TV is receiving a 4k signal
4. Make sure you are using COPY-BACK rendering and its set in MADVR
5 Use windowed mode in DS
6.if you dont play 3D movies leave FSE off in both MADVR and DS but ensure user direct3d 11 is ticked in MADVR
7.is your movie playing at 23, 976, you may not be able to run HDR movies at 60hz smoothly if thats what you are doing. (set 2160p23 in MADVR display modes, for the moment remove all others while testing this)

lots of other variables here though but this is a start.

Thanks but none of that worked :/ My GPU is 970 but my CPU decodes the video for me(4690k).

It's really strange how DSPlayer was working fine for months, I even watched a 4K remux just last week without a single stutter.

But now all of a sudden they playback in slow-mo.

RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - mclingo - 2018-02-21

what do you mean your CPU decodes, are you saying you have the LAV filters set to software?

post your control+j screen while playing a HDR movie.
