RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - toki5 - 2018-07-19 I forgot to say thank you again so much on your work with all of this. Pushing the boundaries forward to get that right look and it is beautiful. RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - Warner306 - 2018-07-19 I've found titles mastered at 1,000 nits look pretty accurate at 200 nits. The two titles mastered at 4,000 nits with consistent brightness around 1,000 nits made me question the color accuracy. I don't know if this is true for every 4,000 nits title, but color correction for 4,000 nits titles could be less accurate. Given how new HDR -> SDR is, I would expect that formulas will be shared among developers over the next couple of years until a good compromise is found. What is there is just a starting point. Many projector owners have an issue with the low brightness tone mapping of the projector's factory HDR mode, so there is an audience for video processing like madVR or Lumagen. RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - Warner306 - 2018-07-21 @toki5, I've attached the files I was using for black and white clipping. I couldn't get a response from any experts on whether these are accurate at 8-bits with an SDR gamma curve rather than true PQ, but they could provide some benefit. The 8-bit black clipping video is short and requires a lot of patience to adjust. Changes in target nits should produce small changes, while changes in gamma curves will produce large changes. The white clipping video is only useful up to 1,000 nits. Lower targets nits will clip early and higher target nits will clip late. Many values will likely clip the same, so you would still have to adjust by eye. It is unlikely to produce a perfect result with actual content and you might have trouble getting proper black clipping. The eye test is still necessary, and you really need the next build to get the full benefit. HDR10 Test Patterns - Black & White Clipping I would go to the DisplayCAL forums and inquire about using HDR -> SDR 3D LUTs in madVR. If you have a meter, that would probably be the best way to get a proper grayscale and brightness. This is the image I got on a plasma monitor with some black clipping (a sample from Red Sparrow): Another display looks a little different, but the overall brightness looks accurate. RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - toki5 - 2018-07-21 thank you very much for the reply. I will give this a look and see what adjustments I can make. I have already made a forum post over there and they aren't responding to me just yet. RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - toki5 - 2018-07-21 I have already looked at different 3dluts with the hdr to sdr luts and my problem with it is that it's too dark. It's a lut over a lut for rec709 so the blacks are too dark and really loses detail in my opinion so I switched back to madvr shader math. RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - xinseo - 2018-07-22 I'm facing stuttering when using madVR (latest) with DSPlayer. The decoder queue reaches 1-3/24 very quickly and the video starts stuttering. Audio does not stutter. This problem is not faced when using identical settings of madVR on MPC-HC or MPC-BE. Here is a screenshot from MPC-BE: When using DSPlayer: Here are my Kodi settings: https://imgur.com/a/AP18oNg Here is the debug log: https://pastebin.com/nYqzG0ac System: i7 4790k with 16GB RAM GTX 1080 Windows 10 Pro RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - Warner306 - 2018-07-22 You aren't using hardware decoding. Why is that? It is definitely a video decoding issue and nothing else. Try D3D11 Automatic or DXVA2 copy-back. DSPlayer may be using more of your CPU. Both worked fine but no. 2 is better. 1. Using x64 version instead of x86 fixed the stuttering but CPU usage was 80% 2. Using DXVA2 copy back as video decoder worked as well and CPU usage was under 10%. Perfect! Thank you! There isn't anything you can do about the transition to DSPlayer. It just isn't meant to be used with that add-on. I tried it once a while ago and gave up. It is a good add-on and I've collected all of the required intro videos, but it's not worth dumping DSPlayer just to use it.(2018-06-29, 18:01)Warner306 Wrote: You need to change the folder options in Windows to see file extensions. You don't see them by default. I don't think nkv is a valid file extension. Try .flv instead. Thanks Warner. Did as you recommended and have got it working but not a smooth experience overall in that department. I see a pause buffer screen between the MPAA and the movie itself which doesn't look quite smooth so rather not use it. Is there a way to show just a black screen whilst we move from Audio clips > MPAA > movie? This post is just a follow up to what I quoted above. I tried really hard to get cinema vision working perfectly in my setup as I really wanted access to hue automated light controls as well as Rating bumpers in my setup to get the complete cinema feel. I did fail at the time because the process wasn’t smooth, but since I posted I no longer run DSPLAYER on a virtual machine in my server. I now have a dedicated HTPC and am happy to say that was the difference between having a smooth experience. Cinemavission now works perfect with DSPlayer with no delays/crashes. I am very happy following "Warner306" advice by changing file naming conventions to get this all working. For those interested please look up the posts above for a proper explanation on how to setup cinema vision with DSPlayer. Thanks RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - Garry74 - 2018-07-29 I have finally got Kodi and dsplayer working with a few minor glitches. 1. Sometimes when stopping a film the picture goes really small and to the top left of the screen. 2. Not a Kodi issue, but whenever I select a custom resolution in Windows to get less frame drops if I reboot or go back to the desktop Windows selects the native resolution. Very annoying. I am using the latest nvidia drivers. I need smooth playback as frame drops really annoy me. RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - arabesc - 2018-07-29 Just to note. I've replaced the XySubFilter with the AssFilterMod and it seems the video playback became smoother. I'm going to keep it. It is obviously a resolution changing issue. Some troubleshooting: - Did you determine if the custom resolution is causing this? - Have you tried using refresh rate switching with Kodi and madVR but not both at the same time? - Did you set Kodi to a fullscreen window rather than a true fullscreen? - Did you try setting Kodi to another resolution like 1920 x 1080p? - Did you try enabling and disabling fullscreen exclusive mode along with the option to disable fullscreen exclusive mode on stop in DSPlayer? I don't think the custom resolution issue is that big of a problem. People having been using Windows media players for years without ever noticing the odd frame drop or repeat. It is sometimes in your head. The newest Nvidia driver should give you one frame drop or repeat every 12-14 minutes. If you do use a custom resolution, you may have trouble switching into 12-bit and having that change stick. If you really want the custom resolution, I would just create it at 8-bits and use the dithering of madVR. You are unlikely to notice the difference. Also, try another optimized clock if the one you are using is giving you problems. MPC-BE won't support it for some reason because of the way it is designed. RE: Kodi DSPlayer – DirectShow Player for Windows - Garry74 - 2018-07-29 Turning off full screen window seems to have done the trick. Thanks for the help. |
