I understand it's a request many will not use but keep it in mind.

Thanks

jm, I know you use Picasa too... Have you considered adding support for the simple functions like rotation. With that in place other functions like cropping and straightning could be added later on and albums like Glazza suggest.
Later image viewing could be speeded up by storing a number of images on local harddrive. Of course this only makes sense if resizing (to 720p or 1080i) and any new Picasa introduced features is done in memory and not via the GPU. A rotated, cropped, resized and straightend photo saved to disk in a lossless format would be much faster to load and view than fetching original and processing it on a NAS/Server. Again, only makes sense if not done by GPU already...

I'm not interested in it myself, but am not opposed to a patch should someone else decide to do so.

Jmarshall, out of curiosity.... on a scale of 1 to 10 how hard would it be to create a database for photos? For a pro and a novice?

- jmarshall - 2007-08-23

For a pro: 1. For a novice: 9

Wow a 9 for a newbie Smile Looks like we'll be waiting for a PRO to built this.......

Photo Tagging (requiring a database for photos?)? - Gamester17 - 2007-12-18

I was just wondering if you guys were planning on implementing a native photo tagging feature in XBMC? Making it possible to search, and filter photos when browsing, per person, date/year, GPS (geotag) location, or other tags, via a library view mode in the photos section.

This would of course require the implementation of a database for the photos section in XBMC as well, (similar to the video and music databases).

...maybe also implement a full EXIF and IPTC metadata reader (or does XBMC already have one?)
http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1679924&group_id=87054&atid=581840
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EXIF

Huh

- jmarshall - 2007-12-18

XBMC already has one - whether or not it's "full" or not is a different question - it grabs most stuff (GPS, Exif, IPTC etc.) from jpegs at least.

- Gamester17 - 2007-12-20

I would still like to have a photos/pictures SQL database in XBMC Wink

Has there been any change in the status of this feature suggestion?

Display Only Comment Information From Exif Information in Photos - KingJames - 2008-05-18

Is it possible to to take the comment part out of the exif information of a photo and have it displayed at the bottom of each photo that passes in slideshow. Ater using a exif editor u can add a description to the photo in the comment section and just display that part when hitting the info button on the controller or the remote, and have the font color maybe in yellow like subtitles.

- KingJames - 2008-05-18

Maybe if possible Xbmc can add a small time Exif editor to change info in the photo or to just add a description to the photo.

Organize / show pictures using tags? - m5a5l3m - 2008-07-25

Can we show pictures using tags (like Vista Media center)?

- kraqh3d - 2008-07-25

No. There is no library for pictures. Xbmc is currently bound to viewing pictures by folder. (But Xbmc does read EXIF tags and use it to determine proper image orientation.)

- m5a5l3m - 2008-07-25

Is there any plan to do so? I think it will be very helpful..
