why not use one of the existing android remotes? Like our official one https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.xbmc.kore which is free and opensource. If you want a custom version of it, feel free to modify it's source code to your needs https://github.com/xbmc/Kore

And, just to say Kore isn't the only one, Yatse works very good as well. But, it's closed source and some features have to be paid.

An odd question from a would-be developer... why don't you just look at the gihub repository above and figure it out? Or read the wiki about the Kodi API?
