Attention all language translators - XBMC needs your help with internationalization! - spiff - 2007-02-19

Hi all translators !

We can proudly announce, that our official translation project is open for everyone who wants to contribute to XBMC with translations.
GO TO: https://www.transifex.net/projects/p/XBMC-Main-Frodo/

This is only a first step. We plan to upload a separate addon project for official xbmc addons.
Also might be that an Eden backport project will follow for a service release.

Also a wiki help must be done to help how to do it. Well most of you will easily figure it out as Transifex is really easy.
Any help with putting together a wiki page would be much appreciated. I still have a lot of other stuff to set up.

Enjoy and thanks for contributing. Please give me feedback if possible (also positive ones :-) )

Attila Jakosa (Team XBMC)

hi spiff,

thanks for the hint. i have already updated the german langinfo.xml to include the following tokens:

Der
Die
Das
The

so all german "definitve articles" and the english "the" should be ignored when activated in settings.

Cheers.

- blittan - 2007-02-20

is this configurable from gui.. the tokens that is? so a user can delete/add more tokens?

- jmarshall - 2007-02-20

There are additional advanced settings tokens.

- spiff - 2007-02-20

i saw no need to add removals. the lang ones should be rather 'conservative' so nobody that actually enables the feature would want to remove them.

as for gui'ing it; this is a typical advancedsetting. would take too much 'gui' to get it practical there anyway.

Useful links for translators:
Information on Language Support

Always use the trunk for translation, there are numerous strings there that may not yet be in other branches:
http://trac.xbmc.org/browser/trunk/language

Feel free to use the XBMC Translator Tool:
http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=XBMC_Translator

Also, I recently commit a change to the 'ignore "the" when sorting option'.

The tokens are now configurable per language. see the english langinfo.xml. i'd imagine germans wants 'der, die, das' etc.

Please not: this means that there's no 'the' unless its set in the langinfo xml.

There are also advancedsettings for additionals for users.

http://trac.xbmc.org/browser/trunk/language = 404 on github

I want to translate XBMC in Georgian, but there is one problem, I've opened thread about it but no one answered my question.

Hi,

I've been translating XBMC to Japanese but it's been a while since last time I updated Japanese language file. Now I just notice some strings were changed in opposite way on recent XBMC so I'd like to update Japanese file, however it looks new translation project for Frodo is started. Can I still update a language file to Trac as we do before, or should I update on Transifex only(I have just registered now)? Please advise.

Thanks,

Kyouhei

Only on Transifex please. But I saw you already joined the Japanese translation group.

Just get a forum moderator copy and paste from http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=132639 and overwrite the content of the initial post?
