RE: OpenELEC Testbuilds for RaspberryPi (Kodi 17.0) - Milhouse - 2016-02-10

Going back through previous builds... it looks like the HEVC Big Buck Bunny issues aren't regressions in #0209 after all - the problems existed in earlier builds. I've gone back to build #0120 and the restart-on-seek issue is there too, which makes me wonder if I've just never before tested seeking while playing these files.

Also, given that 1080p has never been playable until now, this is the first time I've tried playing the 1080p file all the way through, which may explain why I've only just noticed the restart issue after 1m24s (or so) - this same issue is present in build #0120 too.

I'd imagine the issues are linked... maybe missing index information or i-frames? VLC on Windows has a hard time seeking within these BBB files.

Have tried some and it is really great improvement on h265.

Also switching from an MPEG2 TV channel to an MPEG4 (H264) channel does not work.

Was this working in an earlier build? When did it last work?
A debug log (wiki) may help.
I have upgraded from #205 to #209 and MPEG2 Live TV seems to work again, no more slowmotion video.
There is still an problem when switching from an MPEG2 channel to an MPEG4 channel, the screen stays black and there is no audio.

A hint for people seeking to overclock their SDRAM from stock 450 MHz on a RPi2 using the new firmware and the schmoo parameter...

To verify stability, try running memtester using "nice" on command line, but four times with e.g. 200 MB RAM each. Watch using bcmstat.sh how high temperature climbs. Verify using e.g. htop that all four cores are indeed busy.

At 500 MHz I can reach 75°C for the SOC but then errors will happen. I used disable_pvt=1. Bottom line for my RPi2 was that ARM at 900 MHz, core 450 MHz and SDRAM 450 MHz will be okay, 1000/500/450 only somewhat stable with hiked ARM voltage, SDRAM > 450 MHz unstable in above stress test whatever I do.

I have some buffering issues with latest builds at the beginning when watching livetv channels

Can you disable adjust PLL in settings and see if that helps?

Wow, the new firmware is amazing. I've had success playing a couple of 1080p h265 files with zero issues. Overclock settings are Arm1050, SDRAM600, Core500.

I disabled pll adjust - no change.

Hello,

Can't update my Rpi (not Rpi2) with any of the latest builds (from February), says "size check failed"

Seems due to the main partition that is now too small for the new big 129 Mo releases

I am currently stuck on #0131

Thanks

Waow, that's a lot of overclocking, I have had hickup with lower overclocks...

I am currently set to medium:
arm_freq = 900
core_freq = 333
ram_freq = 450
over_voltage = 2

I guess with your setting you have over_voltage = 6, at least
What are the values of force_turbo and initial_turbo ?

Which version of the board do you have ?
How powerful is the power supply ?
What kind of SDcard ?
As all those could influence the efficiency

I think we can assume it's a Pi 2. You won't be playing 1080p HEVC on a Pi 1 or Pi zero...

Here's what's in my config.txt:

force_turbo=1
disable_pvt=1
arm_freq=1050
core_freq=500
sdram_freq=600
initial_turbo=0
over_voltage_sdram=5
over_voltage=6
hdmi_ignore_cec_init=0
sdram_schmoo=0x02000020
dtoverlay=sdhost
avoid_warnings=1

it's a 16gb Kingston sd card. I'm not sure i have the optimal settings but it works. 2A power supply from amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0193BFSNU?psc=1 Again, I don't know if that's considered any good either but it works.

You can remove that I suspect. It was required a while back, but firmware now does an equivalent thing when sdram_freq > 450.

RE: OpenELEC Testbuilds for RaspberryPi (Kodi 17.0) - jeffjoker - 2016-02-10

RPi 1 (Rev 1 or 2) or 2 ?

2A power supply definitely helps, mine is a bit weak...
I'll try and change it for a more powerful one

RE: OpenELEC Testbuilds for RaspberryPi (Kodi 17.0) - Trixster - 2016-02-10

Rpi2. No idea if there are different revisions of the rpi2.
