I thought this might have been a problem with upgrading from one version to another but I've tried resetting skin to defaults and also completely removed the skin (uninstall within Kodi and also remove all folders/files manually) and re-install but still get this same problem.

A lot of stuff has changed in the last iterations of the skin. In your case, you just need to assign some widgets to your tv menu.\\For example assign the "ecent recordings" widget to your spotlight section.

1) Animated artwork is heavy, VERY heavy for your system. Especially when it's enabled inside the lists itself.
In the latest beta I have added an option to only display the animated art in the details/info panel so it will be less resource hungry.
In your case I's suggest to enable that option.

You will have to re-assign your widgets or reset the menu to defaults to make the widgets work properly again.

I run Kodi Krypton v6 (Windows 10 store app) with this skin on an older pc (Socket 775, Q9200 CPU, 8GB ddr2 ram) and it runs fine as does the animated artwork so i find it hard to beleive that his system cannot handle it as its newer than what im using.
