Seems its just a rumour Confused

RE: Raspberry pi3 release soon ? - Milhouse - 2016-02-17

Already discussed here, with appropriate response.

RE: Raspberry pi3 release soon ? - MrMagic - 2016-02-17

Still, an RPi3 would be nice.. Bring on HDMI 2.0, HD audio passthrough, HEVC and VP9 decoding in hardware, USB 3.0 and Gbit ethernet Big Grin

The latest Android TV boxes based on S905 for example have most of these capabilities, but an open platform that can run Kodi/OpenELEC would be so much better!

RE: Raspberry pi3 release soon ? - bledd - 2016-02-17

H265 decoding please.
Gigabit LAN would be nice too, if only to make that light on my switch go from orange to green.

RE: Raspberry pi3 release soon ? - MrMagic - 2016-02-17

HEVC and H.265 are one and the same AFAIK Smile

RE: Raspberry pi3 release soon ? - Milhouse - 2016-02-17

H265 is possible with the RPi2... 1080p if you're lucky (sdram_freq=600).

Might be a rumour as they just released the pi zero

I reckon it is a rumour as the last facts I read is that the factory is now flat out making Pi Zeroes. The Pi Zero is about education and that is the Raspberry Pi Foundation's main goal. Schools have to finance their IT budgets themselves so the prospect of funding an RPI2 for each child isn't cheap. But with Pi Zero it is an achievable goal at £4 a time.

The only thing official I have seen in denying the above.

RE: Raspberry pi3 release soon ? - Ned Scott - 2016-02-26

Maybe a new model, but something with a more powerful CPU, and thus a "Pi 3", is very unlikely.

RE: Raspberry pi3 release soon ? - DarrenHill - 2016-02-26

Why would the Pi Foundation put out more new hardware at a time when their supply factory is already snowed under trying to produce enough Pi Zeroes to meet the massive demand for them? Let alone the also still significant demand for 2B's?

RE: Raspberry pi3 release soon ? - zehner - 2016-02-26

The Pi2 and Pi0 are so successful because they have reused the optimized and matured software stack. A completely new SoC would break this compatibility, so I would rather expect "smaller" optimisations (more cores, higher frequencies, more ports) than a new SoC. But I'm in doubt that Broadcom has an octa core CPU overclocked to 2 Ghz with dual GPU ready next week and I have not seen any commit with code adjustments for a new SoC. Who would buy a Pi3 with no working software?
