Apple TV 3 using Kodi possible? - DarkXess - 2016-02-17

As the title suggests, it is possible to install Kodi on Apple TV 3rd Generation?

I have looked around and came only across fake videos making fun of it, so it's not possible or what? any links to how I can do it would be grateful

Thanks Smile

No, it was never jailbroken...

As such there was never a way to install apps on it...

The only Apple TVs that Kodi can be installed on are 1st, 2nd, and 4th generation

I feel so stupid for buying it now, honestly... its just pointless me ever even getting it.

Oh well, thanks a lot for the reply anyways, looks like I will have to get the new 4th gen one now Tongue

The 4th gen is not jailbreakable is it? but can install apps on?

Correct, there's no jailbreak on it but Apple allowed free developer accounts to install apps onto devices for "testing purposes".

I just made an app that will re-sign any app that isn't encrypted (Kodi, emulators, other stuff..)

You do need a mac though... (or at least running Mac OS X Wink)

Grrrr... well lets just hope there is a Jailbreak for this one then, I think I will wait now until further news haha

Thanks again Smile

The only way to use Kodi on an ATV3 is to airplay it from say an iPhone or iPad, the setup of this makes the iPad/iphone become a touch remote for kodi while in airplay mode and this works fine, however.....

you have to have an iPad / iPhone with kodi installed, which means jailbroken or installed via a developer account and signed, then you need a version of IOS on this device that is comparable with the ATV airplay system as apple changed the protocol used for airplay in later versions of IOS which may not be compatible with the older IOS versions running on ATV3.

A lot to think about to be honest ATV2 and ATV1 are now too old and don't support the latest versions of kodi since 14.2 and this was flakey on ATV2 sometimes, these platforms are no longer officially supported by kodi dev team so in all honestly your best bet is to go with the ATV4 if you want to stick with apple devices.

Their are however numerous alternatives available and a quick google search will bring up a few good cheap alternatives, Fire sticks, Pi's, Cheap PC linked to tv via cdmi or vga,

i personally use a 27" iMac in my man cave for kodi (every bloke needs a man cave, best room in the house) haha

good luck with your search for an alternative, PM me if you need any more advice.

Actually not too long ago, ATV1 was aligned with the rest w/ OE 6.01 and Kodi 15.2 . And that was before the time you posted last.

Finally an ATV3 jb!

Got Kodi 14.2 Helix installed the other day on my ATV3 (Apple TV 3 A1469). Installed it on the user partition to save system disk space by following instruction in another forum post.

Placed an mp4 movie (black and white, 720p) on the local disk space.

To get the playback speed to be stable (fps), I had to set the ATV3 TV Resolution to 720p - 50Hz and also disable the subtitles. With these mods, the movie played decently.

However, I do prefer to use subtitles.. Anybody find any other tweaks that improve the Kodi playback?
