RE: HiMedia Q5/Q10 Pro (2016) with Kodi: Reviews & Utilization - mdj156 - 2016-06-10

I have been reading along a while now, and decided to buy the Q10 Pro, which arrived today. The wrapper already came preinstalled, but it is very unstable with local files - error that the wrapper has stopped. Anything I can do about that? (the most recent firmware is also installed)
And for some reason I cannot get bitstreamed audio, it is set everywhere to raw, but I only get stereo. Am I missing something?

RE: HiMedia Q5/Q10 Pro (2016) with Kodi: Reviews & Utilization - _Spook_ - 2016-06-10

I am looking for a player capable off playing 10bit, HDR files from my NAS through Kodi. Seems the current issues are related to the wrapper with kodi and using passwordprotected SMB/NFS shares? But is fixable with some tinkering.

So, is it worth getting the Q10/Q5 Pro at the moment? Smile

Yes.

Does the Q5 use all the same firmware/wrappers and so on as the Q10? So that all the work that has been done on the Q10 also works if I get the Q5. I don't need the local harddrive Smile

Firmware will likely be different, just based on how it was w/previous gen. Wrapper same I believe. Functionally and performance-wise, Q5 Pro and Q10 Pro should be identical.

Hmm. Maybe I should just get the Q10 then since it has been on the market longer and seems to have gotten more firmware updates....

RE: HiMedia Q5/Q10 Pro (2016) with Kodi: Reviews & Utilization - mdj156 - 2016-06-10

Hmm, I see I am not the only one with passthrough issues, I could try a factory reset - if that doesn't work, I'll try if I can send the unit back. Not much faith in a device if even a simple passthrough doesn't work out of the box..

One of my friends has Q3. It had some issues with bitstreaming. For example hd audio always stereo with kodi. (Still is) Atmos mixes and some videos with aac audio always silent. On internal player (not kodi) bitsteaming works but videos with aac and atmos audio always silent. And after some app installed from google play wrapper stops for no reason. With internal player blank (black screen) video but audio played and subtitles shown. Fix was only factory reset.
After a update those issues are gone but this update was an android update not a firmware update. Of course we updated firmware also. Now it working fine.

After factory reset got the passthrough working now, but still a lot of movies that are not playable due to unknown play errors, ranging from 3d iso to regular h264 mkv's (both kodi and internal player), which my old Xtreamer prodigy have no issues with. So I won't be sending the prodigy with retirement any time soon..

I watched all videos from LG, and i just want to say one word : wonderful, they are the most beautiful Demo 4K SDR/HDR that i watched.

- LG Demo Dolby Vision work, of course without the Dolby Vision ( my tv is not compatible)

- LG Demo HDR work, my tv switch HDR mode, but i have the same problem with HDR10 and YRcBr 4.2.0 10Bit, the colors gradient seems to be like 8bit gradient/gradient dithering as on demo Sony Camp 4K HDR.

- LG Demo SDR work.

if i choose ""video output OTHER" and i watch LG demo HDR, i do not have the probleme of graduation (8bit gradient/gradient dithering ), but the colors are saturated, particularly in the red/orange, i must reduce the color on my TV

All videos are smooth, the colors are vivid...LG demos are just beautiful...wouaaah.

Thank you OlivierQC. When bugs fixed this player will be perfect.
Q10 Pro looks like it has problems with YRcBr 4.2.0 10Bit. It can't output 10bit correctly. I hope this will be fixed soon.

I think when "video output OTHER" selected there is hdr --> sdr convertion. This could be causing oversaturated colors.
Same thing also happens in htpc with madvr. It does the job well but some levels a little bit off.

Your welcome,

in my case, if Himedia fix the following problems, i will be very happy:

- YCrBc 4.2.0 10Bit (8bit gradient/gradient dithering)

- Sharpness does not work (expressX engine v2).

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone can suggest other supported joypads/gamepads other than the officially supported "Xiaomi Wireless Bluetooth Gamepad Joypad Game Controller".

Many thanks in advance,
V.

Oi!

Quote:•The 23.976 issue has been nailed down: anything under 1920x1080 isn't auto-switching to 23.976. So, 720p is affected, as are any MKV/MP4 re-encodes at like 1920x800 (basically 2.40:1 movie with black bars excised)
•[Video] 23.976 1080p H.264 = pass, playback at proper '23.97' framerate (as my projector indicates). But, frame skips and microstutters are present at resolutions below 1920x1080 (like 720p and 1920x800 as in a re-encoded 2.40:1 aspect ratio MKV)

I thought that auto-switching to 23.976 below 1080p issue is not the same as microshuttering issue at 23.976 on any resolution. So these are 2 different issues as far as I know.
