RE: HiMedia Q5/Q10 Pro (2016) with Kodi (4K / HDR / 3D / HD Audio) - jedpod - 2016-09-18

Dear HiMedia Q10 owners, may I have one request for you?
I've bought Panasonic GX8 camera and captured some footages, unfortunately my old Dune D1 is not able to play them (it hangs-out), I need to convert footages before watching them.
I'm lazy and would like to avoid time consuming conversion so I'm in the middle of search for the new player to handle such task.

HiMedia Q10 Pro have plenty of positive opinions so I'm almost made my decision. Before placing the order I need to know whether new hardware of HMQ10Pro can handle footage captured with GX8.
So my request is to check the following samples (dummy ones):
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B_9PCm3LK6OdMVA5ZVlEWUFrLW8?usp=sharing

I wait for your comments, I hope I'll be HM10QPro owner soon !

Many thanks in advance !

Hi folks, thinking about grabbing this for my 3d isos. and future 4k when I can afford it. this is poor for premium streaming like netflix, I'm OK with that. what about the bulk of kodi plugins? are their compatibilty compromises using this box vs say a shield when it comes to plugins. how do plugins interact with the wrapper? is it seamless?

Which of those 10 clips are from your Panasonic GX8?

Video add-ons, for whatever reason, are a little sluggish to install/use w/Q5/Q10 Pro. Once installed, they work fine, but not as fluidly as on my Shield, Intel NUC and Pi3. As the wrapper is configured by HiMedia, I've found most (if not all) videos get pushed to the native player. Overall, for video add-ons, Kodi does a better job than native player. You can either bring up context menu on a video and choose Kodi's dvdplayer/videoplayer for playback, or modify the playercorefactory.xml by HiMedia to have all Internet-based streams play using Kodi (or at least I think you can do this).

All of them comes from GX8. The most interesting are:
3840x2160_25p_93.8Mbit-s.MP4
1920x1080_25i_21.8Mbit-s.MTS
1920x1080_50p_27.1Mbit-s.MTS

I captured footage in all available modes just to know how versatile the HM10Q is.

Okay, will try them all today and let you know.

Just tested, and they all play fine. Hard to judge playback quality as you shot scenes of your TV playing music videos as opposed to scenery, people, etc. But, seems smooth w/o any artifacts.

Thanks for the great response! So the add-ons are faster and better when not played through the wrapper. but what is the quality of media playback through native kodi on this box without the wrapper? it doesn't have access to all the hardware, correct? will that mean no HD audio, or poor 1080p 23.97/24/60hz.

They play also fine on my HiMedia Q10 Pro.

I don't use the wrapper! And the quality with Kodi playback is good! Here it also play HD audio and 1080p fine.

Yes they give light, but go out when I play something.

RE: HiMedia Q5/Q10 Pro (2016) with Kodi (4K / HDR / 3D / HD Audio) - Doflamingo - 2016-09-19

I know they give light but I would know if appears less brighter respect circle white led.

RE: HiMedia Q5/Q10 Pro (2016) with Kodi (4K / HDR / 3D / HD Audio) - hdmkv - 2016-09-19

They're all about the same level of brightness for me.

RE: HiMedia Q5/Q10 Pro (2016) with Kodi (4K / HDR / 3D / HD Audio) - Doflamingo - 2016-09-19

Hi hdmkv, but white or a little yellow like in my pic?

RE: HiMedia Q5/Q10 Pro (2016) with Kodi (4K / HDR / 3D / HD Audio) - hdmkv - 2016-09-19

All white. Are you looking for a way to dim or disable the lights? My Q10 Pro is behind a closet, so bothers me not... but if yours is on a rack under a TV, I could see the LED lights being a nuisance.

WeTek for example also has an App that mirrors the screen and provides extra functions too. That is also not included in that thread.

Then there are a bunch of users that simply want One single remote control in one Hand (myself included), Beer in the other, and don't want to stuff around with Phones or Tablets, draining batteries, and dropping into annoying sleep modes just to simply control a Android media player properly.

This is the exact reason Android TV OS was invented, for simple sensible big screen TV Apps control.

The Hicontrol remote app is excellent, free, and widely used. I think you are wrong to focus purely on the IR remote (which is also pretty good, albeit not a combined keyboard/pointing device).
