RE: Intel HTPC/NUC's w/reliable Kodi-native 3D MVC Playback - p750mmx - 2017-02-13

What settings do you mean?

Edit: I don't think the motherboard has HDMI 2.0? Specifications speaking of 4K@24Hz and 4K@30Hz, so no HDMI 2.0? Only if a displayport is on the board it can do 4K@60Hz on the series.

I am using driver 15.45.14.4590 from here:
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/de/download/26563/Graphics-Intel-Grafiktreiber-f-r-Windows-15-45-?product=97503

You mean the settings which are different? I need to check it again, can't at the moment.

The specs tell me:
- Supports HDMI with max. resolution up to 4K x 2K (4096x2160) @ 60Hz

You are right, I've looked over that one I guess.

Unfortunately, the most modern Intel chips still has no native support of HDMI 2.0 so all motherboard vendors has to use DP->HDMI 2.0 chips. These chips has an issue with 3D. You must use HDMI1.4 or native DP to be able enjoy stereo 3D

RE: Intel HTPC/NUC's w/reliable Kodi-native 3D MVC Playback - Caramba69 - 2017-02-13

Even with my DP-HDMI 2.0 adapter I don't get 3D working. It only works with the HDMI 1.4 with my Beebox.

RE: Intel HTPC/NUC's w/reliable Kodi-native 3D MVC Playback - Gizzmo - 2017-02-13

So you are destroying my hope, I ordered a DP 1.2 to HDMI 2.0 and a Thunderbolt 3 to HDMI 2.0 adapter to see
if these would work. Reading your post Caramba69, I am afraid not, but I will test it.

Problem is, that the Asrock mainboard only has one HDMI port, so no chance to use 1.4.

@afedchin, do you know if this is a known bug and they are working on it, or is it something hardware based so
can't be fixed?

Fwiw, Intel HTPC with Nvidia HDMI 2.0 is working without any adapters or other band-aids.
Have you guys tried a more recent release of Intel Media SDK on your NUC's?
No idea if this has any bearing but worth a try.

RE: Intel HTPC/NUC's w/reliable Kodi-native 3D MVC Playback - Gizzmo - 2017-02-13

@brazen1, I wanted to avoid an extra card, because of heat and power. I was not aware that this is an issue with
all new Intel onboard graphics. I thought it's more a NUC thing...

About the Intel Media SDK, I don't know what you mean with this. Is this a NUC thing or also for HTPC with Intel
CPU?

Given the situation, only option for now for those of wanting MVC and 4K appears to be Beebox-S? 7100U or 7200U.

I must be mistaken? I thought Intel Media SDK installation was a requirement for NUC users. I've never used one so I guess not. I use ancient Intel CPU with no integrated GPU thus need for Nvidia and IMSDK.

RE: Intel HTPC/NUC's w/reliable Kodi-native 3D MVC Playback - Gizzmo - 2017-02-13

What irritates me a littlebit is that in the specs of the mainboard ist mentioned:

Supports Intel® HD Graphics Built-in Visuals : Intel® Quick Sync Video with AVC, MVC (S3D) and MPEG-2 Full HW Encode1,
Intel® InTru™ 3D, Intel® Clear Video HD Technology, Intel® Insider™, Intel® HD Graphics

So reading this and that it's Intel gen7 compatible I am wondering where the issue comes from.

Something strange from Asrock is, that there are sidenotes within the specs:

***Due to chipset limitation, the Blu-ray playback of Intel® HD Graphics is only supported under Windows® 8 / 8 64-bit / 7 / 7 64-bit.

****Intel® InTru™ 3D is only supported under Windows® 8 / 8 64-bit / 7 / 7 64-bit.

So is Win10 the reason for the playback issue? is it the gen7 CPU? or is it the mainboard chipset? and hopefully, is it solveable with
softwareupdate (maybe nobody here can answer these questions, but who knows... )

It's a hardware issue. chip which is used on motherboards or in adapters has this issue/limitation.

I think because nvidia has a native HDMI2.0.
Please stop muss up decoding and output. Intel Media SDK it's a software API and isn't required for stereo 3D output. It's required for MVC decoding only. It's installed along with Intel GPU drivers (on Intel platform) or manually for nvidia/amd cards.

It's so stupidly. Win10 isn't the reason. As I said before it's a chip's bug.

So the actual NUCs with Apollo Lake or Kaby Lake can't play 3D correctly because they have a chip for transverting DP to HDMI2?
