No HDMI 2.0 over DVI - just HDMI 1.4 I believe... (i.e. some Apollo Lake boards have HDMI 2.0 outputs fed via DP->HDMI converters, but their DVI outputs are fed from an onboard HDMI 1.4 source I believe - HDMI 2.0 carries 2160/60p but has issues with HD Audio and 3D MVC I believe, whereas HDMI 1.4 - possibly over DVI - has no 2160/60p but does HD Audio and 3D MVC OK?)

Only the mini itx versions have the DP to HDMI chip for HDMI 2.0. The link is for the J3355M which doesn't have HDMI 2.0 and is only a dual core. The J3455-itx and J4205-itx have the chip for HDMI 2.0. Also the link specs 'Supports HDMI with max. resolution up to 4K x 2K (3840x2160) @ 30Hz or 2560x1600 @ 60Hz' vs the two with the chip 'Supports HDMI with max. resolution up to 4K x 2K (4096x2160) @ 60Hz'

I have both J3455 itx and J3455b itx. Connected b version directly on it's (only) hdmi port. Connected J3455 board only via dvi to hdmi. I run 1080p output only.
On both boards no issues with hd audio, apart from sync issue, but I expect that's something else. Runs fine both under windows as well as libreelec. Didn't check sync issue on libreelec.
Also runs mvc.

If you want HDMI 2.0 you would need to choose either the j3455-itx or the j4205-itx, the j4205 is the same as the j3455 except it has a better processor and a bit better integrated graphics. Im using a j3455-itx but not with a 4k display or a receiver and have no problems at all. The only problems people had were when running at 4k 60hz they werent getting HD audio passthrough. If you read through the thread I believe that issue is (maybe) fixed on windows and possibly getting there on linux (?). The versions with B and M do not have the DP to HDMI 2.0 chip and therefore do not have HDMI 2.0 and won't display 4k at 60hz, though they do have a pcie x16 slot for a real dedicated graphics card. But to me, these boards are meant to be used with the integrated intel graphics as a decent card would significantly increase the cost of the system.

I have a spare i3 and i7 at home; for me the argument is whether I should invest in a new graphics card or a new built-in board. I know I'm not gonna get h/W decoding at the moment but no pint buying both.

Ok, didn't notice there was 3455 board with x16 slot. It sounds utterly absurd. The CPU has 6 PCIe lanes in total (!!) and it is clearly aimed at embedded applications as such. One needs some of those lanes for Ethernet, because the chip has only integrated SATA and USB and no network (unless doing something even more absurd such as hooking on-board Ethernet to one of the integrated USB ports). Now I see in the specification that M board has x1 and B board has x2 lines in the x16 slot. Can't see any meaningful application of such slot.

Did you try 4:2:0 on the Samsung that gave you no picture? Some HDMI 2.0 TVs only accept 4:2:0 at 2160/50p and 59.94/60p.
Some people are having HDMI issues with the ASRock boards and Samsung TVs.

I'm considering to get a Gigabyte Brix unit, namely the GB-BPCE-3350.
Based on the description, it has HDMI 2.0 and able to output 4k@60. Question is, did they use a DP to HDMI chip for this unit? If yes, I guess I will not have HD audio at 4k@60? But will I have HD audio for 1080p/i@25/50?
The N3350 should be fine for 4K@60, correct?
