Hmm, based on adapter vs. AC wi-fi speeds you posted, seems like sticking to latter may be better.

From Mi Box tech Specs, page...
Quote:Supports HDR10/HLG HDR processing (software upgrade required)

From CNET...

Quote:The Mi won't get HDR support until it receives the software upgrade to Android N, sometime later this year.

4k2k-60hz = Netflix 4k / No HDR
4k2k-24hz = Netflix 1080p / No HDR
4k2k-smtpe = Netflix 1080p / No HDR / Aspect ratio was screwy

While I was testing this I also tested out the speeds from an ethernet adapter vs 802.11AC and here are the results of three tests (using the Netflix app - I couldn't find a speed test TV app)
USB 3.0 Ethernet adapter: 41.33Mbps / 43.95Mbps / 42.43Mbps
802.11AC: 69.30Mbps / 63.84Mbps / 63.25Mbps

Also I decided to watch an episode of Luke Cage on each connection and with the ethernet USB I'd get some buffering issues (it would drop to 720p/1080p) with 4k watching Luke Cage that didn't happen on AC.

And just to second what @seymourtv said, disable the 'XiaomiLeanbackCustomizer' app.

I wounder what 4K2k smtpe (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers) display output means?

True 4K (4096x2160) @ 24Hz (23.9987 for Amlogic).

I actually scale this Resolution down to fit 3840x2160p on S905 LibreELEC Kodi otherwise you end up with the video or GUI spilling off the TV screen, as people have already found.

In many cases, such as my current home, you are correct. Now try that in an apartment building ;)

When I had an apartment there were more wireless APs than I could count. I had to break out long runs or ethernet cable to use Kodi (then XBMC) without yelling at the TV.

Yeah I had to do that same lol. WHY ARE YOU FREEZING?!?!

Luckily it's a little different now with AC and 5GHz where there's 24 non-overlapping channels vs 3 in the 2.4Ghz days and 5GHz doesn't go that far in an apartment complex.

Some devices do not utilize the DFS channels (e.g. nVIDIA Shield). Don't know how it is implemented in the Mi box.

You are correct. With 4k2k-smpte 4096x2160 setup the Kodi GUI looks a little bit stretch.

Sadly devices not utilizing those channels isn't an uncommon occurrence, and it's not just clients that have weird things going on with those channels. For example you can't even choose the DFS channels on Airport Extremes if you're specifying the channel, but it will choose them automatically if it detects issues on the other channels and you have that option chosen. I specify all the channels that my APs use after doing surveys when I first moved in.

Looks like Lon's seeing issues using a USB adapter too when streaming games. Ethernet adapters with USB2.0 just aren't good.

No. Bandwidth simply does not matter for streaming local media. 1080p video tops out around 15Mbps; USB2 can real-world handle over 200Mbps. Consistency matters.

Please inform Lon about this so that he can correct his video Angel

RE: Xiaomi 4K HDR 'Mi Box' (Android TV set-top box) - movie78 - 2016-10-10

The Auto HDR ON/OFF doesn't do anything, once I start playing an HDR content on my TV and even when I STOP, the HDR signal on my TV stays on HDR.
Is anyone experiencing this issue?

RE: Xiaomi 4K HDR 'Mi Box' (Android TV set-top box) - timstephens24 - 2016-10-10

I have the same issue, @movie78. I'd recommend sending an email to their support (the more the better).
