Yes the original 2016 Xiaomi Mi Box 3 (MDZ-16-AB) still supports those HD audio formats.

I'm 100% sure I've been watching movie with AAC 7.1 and my AVR was detecting 'multichannel in" with 7.1 input
Something happened after KODI (or MiBox) updated in the last month. KODI showed that progress bar which appears after update.
After that - multichannel PCM is GONE. Only 2.0 PCM remains and it's really breaking all 5.1 experience with AAC encoded audio tracks :/

Is multichannel (5.1/7.1) PCM output over HDMI available now for the Mi Box S?

When i play movie with AAC 7.1/5.1 audio on my yamaha rx v385 avr it's convert to dd (dolby digital) 5.1 , so it's work 👍

For best clear data kodi app, and config again, I'm just enable all audio passthrough on audio setting, check all whitelist refresh rate, set refresh rate switching "on start/stop" , then play and let the avr decode/transcode the audio

You need to enable the "Dolby Digital (AC3) Transcoding" option. However, that option only shows up if number of Channels is set to 2.0.

Yes, it's correct, when i set number of channel to 5.1 it only get 2.0 pcm (prologic ii,neo 6) when play AAC 5.1, so number of channel must set to 2.0

RE: Xiaomi 4K HDR 'Mi Box' (Android TV set-top box) - armADA92 - 2020-07-23

I'm just understand, multichannel pcm is lossless right? Then dolby digital & dts is lossy, except true hd & dts hd is lossless too, so if device support, when play AAC 5.1/7.1 it detect multichannel PCM in avr without passthrough transcode to AC3 ? But in mibox 3 & s it seem still only get 2.0 PCM stereo

Yes, for whatever reason I've never been able to get proper multichannel 5.1 pcm from Kodi on Mi Box 3, only 2.0 pcm. If I use the video player in FX File Explorer instead of Kodi, it is able to send multichannel 5.1 pcm.

Hi there,

I have some questions about Xiaomi Mi Box S:

- Is it capable of running 4k content from an external USB drive?
- Can I run Transmission torrent as Kodi plugin?
- Can I run Steam Link as android app?

Regards

Hi everyone,

I got a Mibox 3 and I'm considering to buy a Nvidia Shield TV Pro in order to have a better video quality with my movies (very often 4K HDR Remux). Do you think that  this is a good choice or my movies quality won't be so different? (considering the Nvidia GPU & the AI upscale).

Thanks for your help!

4K is 4K - there is not going to be any upscaling or visual difference there in that scenario.

If you firstly have poor upscaling on your 4K TV - then with resolution switching working properly on the Shield - AND - if you supply the Shield with decent bitrate 720p or 1080p video content then you will likely notice a visual difference on a 4K TV.

Do not expect visual miracles from AI upscaling if you feed it low bitrate crap:

Here is a bit more Info for you too read about A.I Super Resolution Upscaling, that Premium Branded TV's now implement:
