RE: Xiaomi 4K HDR 'Mi Box' (Android TV set-top box) - newlynx - 2017-05-08

I am setting the Mi box resolution to 4k24Hz (I have a 4k tv) but Kodi doesn't allow me to change resolution and it's stuck to 1920x1080p (grayed out) .
Is this due to the skin resolution? Does it play 4k content in their native resolution or 1080p?

RE: Xiaomi 4K HDR 'Mi Box' (Android TV set-top box) - wrxtasy - 2017-05-08

99% of Android Boxes do not Auto Resolution switch, the exception is the 4K FireTV2

4K content will be played at a 4K resolution if you have already set 4k2k24Hz. Kodi GUI is a 1080p resolution, that will be upscaled by the Mi Box to 4K.

Thanks wrxtasy for your answer!

Audio Drop in Netflix & Google Movies - bennyh - 2017-05-08

Sorry if this is slightly off topic (not Kodi), no quality forum for the Mi seems to exist elsewhere.
I'm getting audio dropout for a second every 5-10 minutes when watching HD content on Netflix and Google Movies. Video performance is acceptable with the odd frame drop that I can live with. Losing the dialogue is a problem though.
It seems to be a new problem.
No problem noticed in Kodi, including streaming 720p.
Connected HDMI to Yamaha receiver. Listening in stereo.
USB ethernet dongle, then Homeplug to AC router (recent upgrade)
Speedcheck: 9Mbs. Netflix gave a tick.
Android set to HDMI only

How should I go about troubleshooting this one?
THanks
Ben

Sorry to ask in this thread. Does 4k fire tv2 has hvec capabilities?

8 bit HEVC Hardware decode only for the FireTV2.

That is a misleading statement. Did you mean that the output is limited to 8-bit? FireTV2 does hardware decode 10-bit HEVC.

Ok , so who have flashed nougat beta, must remain with this firmware...?

Sad

Any news regarding stable release?

I'm only going on what is in the feedback posts from that link above...if the FireTV2 does actually decode10bit HEVC then someone please correct the posts in that thread as there is conflicting info when people talk about stuttering.....

I always thought it strange feedback as 4K Netflix platforms like the Mi Box / FireTV2 normally have to be able to decode 10bit HEVC Netflix.

I´m still waiting for the stable release in hope to get refresh rate switching. That´s why I also still have my FTV2 as spare.
To me it feels like, there´s no more interest in developing any further. Why don´t they just open the bootloader to give the community a chance to develop alternative Software like LibreElec on that box?! That sucks so much

Well you put a link before (in another thread): https://developer.amazon.com/public/solutions/devices/fire-tv/docs/fire-tv-4k-ultra-hd#playing-4k-ultra-hd-videos-on-fire-tv
10-bit color input is supported by the codec, but the output does not support 10-bit output

Stuttering is probably because of the frame rate/refresh rate mismatch. FireTV2 doesn't seem to adjust the pixel clock for 24* (1/1001) refresh rate. MrMC says that internally it is adjusting the clock, but I haven't been able to detect this in the actual HDMI output.

MrMC Wrote: Kernel timing and what the OS thought the time was. This is more important that the absolute rate at which the display is driven. If video content is 23.976 and kernel timing reflects this, then no frame will ever get dropped. The display is driven by the OS timing, not the other way around. And their 'detection' of refresh rate is not an absolute frequency. There is some amount of +/- included to cover clock generation and wander.

Timing the OS retrace flips says 23.976, using the same clock. By tossing in an HDMI analyzer in to the mix, all that means is the absolute hw timing is slightly off in reference to the outside world. No big deal.

I usually watch alot of youtube on the Mi box using my Sennheisser bluetooth headphones. After the beta update, audio on Youtube now stutters and gets out of sync Sad

Any one else experiencing this?

Regards
Jacob
