RE: Passthrough Changes with v17 - Supernovasx - 2017-01-29

Is Transcoding implemented in the rc4 release? I am still using the "not so shitty" build..

RE: Passthrough Changes with v17 - fritsch - 2017-01-29

Kodi has transcoding since version 14. If you mean the "lower quality" to cope with TV shortcomings, that should be there since rc2 or rc3. So in short: yes.

That being said: I kicked off two new builds, notsoshitty and shitty. The only change for the notsoshitty is a workaround for tvheadend, which also is in the shitty build, but this one contains the pcmhack twoliners.

Offtopic: Btw. the streamchange stuff that causes sw decoding is already fixed properly in next gen v18 (not yet merged, but on the way). peak3d implemented the new interface. Great potential.

According to Changelog from Git , since RC3...before that it only existed in your "special" builds.

Now it announces DTS and even DTS-HD. Audiotrack opens and then the sink implementation does not accept packages. Yeah - what a shity FW ... Deactivating DTS / DTS-HD / EAC3 is a one (!) liner for them nothing more ...

Yepp, running the not so shitty January 29 build. No audio pass through at all, everything goes in PCM at my Sony Android TV. Doesn't matter what I choose in settings.

It does matter. And obviously you are doing something wrong since it works for the rest of us. With limitations.... But works.

Ok, can you please tell me the audio settings to make pass through work? Since I obviously failed.

Ok, have to be this:
Channels: 2.0; Disable DTS passthrough; Enable Transcending, to have DTS transcoded to AC3 and passed to your AVR

Edit: Doesn't work with these settings.

Edit 2: not so shitty 31012017 works.

RE: Passthrough Changes with v17 - Jokerchyld - 2017-02-01

Using this -- kodi-20170131-834789b-shitty-armeabi-v7a.apk -- I now have DTS over SPDIF TOSLINK to AVR... with NO skips. =D

I stand behind Fritsch when he says the S912 firmware is horrible. I loaded a custom rom from superceleron and its night and day. Box runs faster overall. Krypton is snappy. And DTS just works. I dont have to sit there anticipating an audio drop. So relieving.

The problems I had before are still there (WiFi never worked and still doesnt). I find wired ethernet to be faster anyway.

If you have one of these crappy S912 boxes as I do, I strongly urge you to load custom firmware until an official update comes out. This custom ROM is 6.0.1 (which I thought I was running anyway).

Oh and by the way... I am going through all this pain because I love Krypton. I mean even my wife is asking about it (and she has seen me use KODI since it was XBMC). As a tester it no longer feels like a pre-release.

Add-on run a little slow, but that's my issue and figure they will catch up when it goes live.

RE: Passthrough Changes with v17 - wrxtasy - 2017-02-01

Useful S912 Feedback. Pretty much Mirrors what I have already in the START HERE Sticky Thread.. Wink

Quote:All dirt cheap, unsupported AMLogic boxes with Android Marshmallow 6.0 are rubbish at the moment for semi-serious Android Kodi use. If proper bug busting Firmware updates do not come from the seller (virtually always the case) then expect broken Kodi Passthrough Audio (especially DTS) and Video features. WiFi or Bluetooth may not even work. These cheap Android devices are strictly DIY only.

And I still get criticized by Newbs for being too harsh on AML S912 devices Rofl

RE: Passthrough Changes with v17 - Jokerchyld - 2017-02-01

@wrxtasy -- Heh, true that Smile

And I will criticize right back at the newbs (in a friendly way) as that START HERE is gold.

RE: Passthrough Changes with v17 - Jokerchyld - 2017-02-01

Wrxtasy - Now that I think about it. Since Im on 6.0.1 this custom firmware I should have API23 right? So this custom firmware *may* allow me to use DTS passthrough with the official build (instead of using 'shitty'). Would that be accurate?

RE: Passthrough Changes with v17 - wrxtasy - 2017-02-01

Maybe, even though API23 is AML Android Marshmallow, you still need the backported AML Android Nougat IEC Audio code for IEC / DTS / HD passthrough support when used with Kodi Krypton RC4 on AML S9xx devices.

The only way is to test IEC Passthrough in Krypton. And then look at the Kodi debug log. The required backported Audio code may or may not be in the AML Marshmallow Firmware.

Even regular RAW should just work however you need correct FW
