RE: Zidoo X9S (4K / HDR / 3D / HD Audio): Review & User Impressions - hdmkv - 2016-10-19

My settings are the same. I haven't played around w/colorspace modes other than 'Auto'. But, deep color 10- and 12-bit appear to work. If leave at 'Auto', I get 12-bit, at least w/my 1080p PJ.

Re: UHD + 3D display, I'm wondering if there's something Zidoo can do to address 3D vs. 4K playback as needed.

Leaving deep color and colorspace to "Auto" mostly works. I don't think it works correctly for YCbCr 4:2:2. 4K 60Hz doesn't seem to support 10/12-bit YCbCr 4:2:2 at all and for 24/25Hz "Auto" will select YCbCr 4:4:4. If you want 4:2:2 output, you have to select it manually.

Now that Google is allowing OEM's to implement Android TV, would this be an option for this box? This will be the best of both worlds - Netflix, Youtube in 4K and 3D MVC ISO/MKV support.

@hdmkv: Hi-res audio is still untested, whereas this feature has already been tested on HiMedia Q10 Pro (with poor result, because it seems that sound is resampled from 24-bit to 16-bit).

RE: Zidoo X9S (4K / HDR / 3D / HD Audio): Review & User Impressions - hdmkv - 2016-10-19

Hoping @wesk05 can test that as part of his evaluation. Or, maybe @looun... with HiMedia, he may have relied on @pcristi's diagnostic tool or his own to get actual in/out rates. If there's a tool or method to check what X9S sees/outputs via its IP while each audio test clip is playing, I can certainly do that.

What does adding openWRT onto this add? I'm trying to find information on what kind of features this adds to the player.

It's an open source OS for the router aspect of the Zidoo hardware. So pretty much any compatible OpenWRT package can be installed onto it:
  • Aria2 File Downloader – utilizes a web interface to allow downloading files by URL and store them on USB/storage attached to the router.
  • BitTorrent Client – the Transmission bittorrent client with a web interface to download bittorrents to USB storage attached to the router.
  • Dynamic DDNS – use DNS services to assign a URL to your router rather than an IP Address.
  • Interface Traffic Statistics – shows the traffic on all router interfaces graphically using vnstat.
  • MJPG-Streamer – support for web cams with preview.
  • OpenVPN - implements virtual private network (VPN) techniques for creating secure point-to-point or site-to-site connections in routed or bridged configurations and remote access facilities.
  • Print Server – attach a printer to the router and have access to it via the network.
  • Quality of Service - is equivalent to traffic shaping but with packet prioritization, application classification and queuing at congestion points.
  • Relayd Protocol – used to implement wifi linking.
  • ROOter Modem Support – basic ROOter support for modems.
  • ROOter SMS Support – adds SMS to the basic ROOter.
  • Samba File Sharing – share USB storage over the network.
  • Universal Plug’n’Play - permits networked devices to seamlessly discover each other's presence on the network.
  • VSFTPD FTP Server – an FTP server.
  • Wonder Traffic Shaper – traffic shaper used to improve response times.
  • and many, many more!

Some packages can even be themed together to form a specific router mod:
  • ROOTer - allows USB modem (and tethered Android connections) connectivity, Guest WiFi, SMS, loadbalancing/failover, UPNP, DLNA, SAMBA, etc.
  • Piratebox - allows for offline wireless file-sharing / local IRC/ radio broadcasting
  • B.A.T.M.A.N. - Mesh-networking / Node file-sharing
  • and many, many more!

like had say @wesk05 it's not real true "test", i have only check file system information. I don't know the x9s file who report 24-bit or 16-bit PCM output.

RE: Zidoo X9S (4K / HDR / 3D / HD Audio): Review & User Impressions - wrxtasy - 2016-10-20

@looun, its simply impossible to get any Android Kodi device to output Multichannel PCM (>2.0) 24bit Audio. Its an actual OS limitation.
Fritsch the Android Audio developer knows his stuff and has actually confirmed it HERE
Quote:... 2.0 will work with a 32 bit format, but for > 2 channels only a 16 bit format is supported
And then Koying also talks about:
Quote:..you don't have access to the PCM 24 mode from JAVA/JNI.
Any Android testing would actually be a pointless exercise.

But audio passthrough works?

See Post #1 - and hdmkv's green Google Sheets for Passthrough testing.

Most Dolby and DTS samples I've seen, and audio in actual BD rips, have a sampling rate of 48kHz (let alone 96 or even 192kHz). Here's a recent DTS:X clip's MediaInfo...

Above is 24-bit though, which is likely resampled to 16-bit based on what we've learned as @wrxtasy pointed out.

No DTS is raw format, so DTS 96/24 work fine ( check-ed by mine onkyo ).
i think also DTS-HD 96-192/24.

PCM 24 bit are resampled to 16-bit.

RE: Zidoo X9S (4K / HDR / 3D / HD Audio): Review & User Impressions - wrxtasy - 2016-10-20

Yes that is my understanding of DTS 96/24 as well looun sent as RAW aka Passthrough. So no 24bit PCM limitations.

RE: Zidoo X9S (4K / HDR / 3D / HD Audio): Review & User Impressions - hdmkv - 2016-10-20

Hmm, okay, my misunderstanding... so we're getting full 24-bit with DD and DTS HD audio? I'll also verify via my AVR, plus test PCM, and post a video on this. Hopefully by this weekend.
