RE: LibreELEC Testbuilds for RaspberryPi (Kodi 18.0) - dantist - 2017-09-24

Sorry for being slightly OT, but I'm planning to upgrade my LibreELEC installation from a RPi 2 to a RPi 3. Can I just put the microSD card and USB Stick (I have /storage moved to USB) in the new Pi, or do I need to preare anything to make it work?

Yes.

However two things to be aware of:
1) If you've been overclocking your RPi2 then your overclock will now apply to your RPi3 and may fail
2) Any codec licences won't work in the RPi3 - you'll need to purchase new licences.

You can create [pi2] and [pi3] sections in config.txt which allows you to use the same SD card to boot RPi2 and RPi3 safely, eg.
Code:
[pi2]
arm_freq=1000
gpu_freq=400
over_voltage=4
force_turbo=1

sdram_freq=600
over_voltage_sdram=5
sdram_schmoo=0x02000020

[pi3]
arm_freq=1300
gpu_freq=500
over_voltage=4
force_turbo=1

sdram_freq=580
over_voltage_sdram=5
sdram_schmoo=0x02000020

@Milhouse

Are the sections [pi2] and [pi3] automatically recognized by the boot?

They are recognised by the Pi firmware, in config.txt - they're a conditional filter.

You can set an option so that it applies only to a certainly class of device (eg. [pi2]), or to a device with a specific serial number, or only when attached to a specific monitor (based on edid).

Thank you for your answer @Milhouse, this feature is really cool.
I did not know that until now Shy

That sounds like a big step forward - thanks!

@garbear: does this mean n64 emulation is possible on arm devices?

Are you aware, that the game support addon (game compatibility core) is still incompatible in this build?

Currently the renderer only does one thing, draws a rectangle. However, separating the renderer from VideoPlayer means we can build on top of it, and N64 emulation is one step closer to reality.

I've asked the LE team to recompile the game add-on so games should be working soon. I haven't yet tested the renderer on arm devices so I'm excited to see if it works.

Thanks for the info and the really cool conditional-feature. I didn't know about that. Will test the new Pi this evening Smile

RE: LibreELEC Testbuilds for RaspberryPi (Kodi 18.0) - ztarbugz - 2017-09-25

I remember that support for 10-bit video was added in firmware some releases ago. I did some tests with 1080p 10-bit H.264 files, but it was jerky with MMAL (but better than OMX with green overlay). Is overclocking needed? Any recommendations here for Pi3 with FLIRC case?

RE: LibreELEC Testbuilds for RaspberryPi (Kodi 18.0) - dantist - 2017-09-25

I don't know if this has anything to do with LibreELEC, but I just tried to install some addons, and none of them works. Manually installing from a ZIP file doesn't help. The log says:

Code:

Is there anything I can do about it? All existing plugins are working fine, I just cannot add new ones.

Add-on installs have been broken since #0923 - try installing with #0922.

RE: LibreELEC Testbuilds for RaspberryPi (Kodi 18.0) - MikeKL - 2017-09-25

Couple of my usual kodi crashes immediately after an install and boot of a latest nightly, following are after install of #0924

kodi crashlog 1
kodi crashlog 2

As with previous, crash appears to occur during tvheadened backend/frontend Channel & EPG updates.
(Note: tvheadend frontend and backend are running on same rpi2 if this is relevant, DVB-T tuner powered by external usb hub)

Normal kodi start occurred and completed at third attempt...
