RE: nVidia Shield TV (2015 & 2017 Models) - UPDATED: May 25, 2018 - barenaked - 2019-11-26

Hi there, I seem to be in need of help. Is there any way to get Kodi on a Nvidia shield tv 2015 or 2017 to play HLG media? I have tried an mkv and a ts stream with HLG metadata inside and my TV is not switching to HDR mode. I have a C9 so the TV can definitely handle it. The problem atm is that Kodi doesn't seem to send HLG metadata to the TV.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Nope, even the new Shield 2019 doesn't unfortunately. Fire TV Stick 4K supports HLG.

Meh... Thank you! Do you happen to know if it's a feature that needs to be addressed at Kodi or Nvidia? Because it is a software thing that needs to be implemented.

I have 2017 and I have problems with kodi sometimes losing the sound for 2 seconds and then back.
I have this problem for a long time and I see that more people have same problem.
I have the latest update version 8.0.1 (32.5.205.75).
Does anyone know when this situation will be resolved?
Boxes at 1/4 of price with Coreelec I don't see this problem.

Could you link to your Debug Log and the github ticket?

I didn't understand your question.
My problem is common in android users.

He's asking for a proper debug log, and then after posting it to a public paste-bin link that URL with a ticket in a bug tacker, link top of this screen.

I don't know how to do that.
English is not my first language, so is not the best, but I try.
HD audio dropouts is a problem reported by many people using kodi in android, both on Nvidia shield TV and Xiaomi mi box.
For the number of times it has been reported my case will be equal to all others.
I would appreciate if kodi could solve this problem since it has been going on for a long time.

Most of the staff is accustomed to language miss-understandings. I have the Nvidia shield (2017) and it's touted as one of the best boxes, and I don't have this issue unless my bandwidth is limited in some fashion. Where are you getting your media from, copy it to local memory; then check if this is still an issue. Suspect networking problems that a proper debug log would show.

No internet problem, the movies are on a WD My Cloud EX2 Ultra NAS and it's all connected by Ethernet cable.
I've done the USB 3.0 test and the same thing happens.
Movies not exceed 10 Mb/s Overall bit rate.
In windows portable PC there are no such problems.
When watching a movie about 2 hours it happens about 3 times (random).
They are only sound failures for about 2 seconds and then back, the video has no interruptions.

As you can see here there are more people with the same problem: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/shield-tv/9/306280/shield-80-update-audio-issues/?topicPage=1

Nvidia Shield TV is updated to the latest version 8.0.1 (32.5.205.75).

So it's not a Kodi problem then?

Is it not?
As I said, it's not just Nvidia shield TV, but everything that is Android.

Well according to the link it's happening with Plex, SPMC and Amazon Prime.

Here is a debug log example of when the problem happens (it happens to me as well, I have the NVidia Shield TV 2017 with the latest software and the lastest Kodi version). It does not matter where the data source is located whether is remote (the case in the log, I am streaming from Google Drive), local network (I have a NAS connected to a gigabit router using a CAT 7 cable and NVidia is connected also using a cat7 cable to the same router), or USB - the problem will happen the same way.

THe movie I played for testing was Rogue One and I sopped the movie and quit the app right after the problem happened (no sound for about 2 seconds - video continue playing correctly)

Hopefully it can help to solve the problem
