Yes, it should play them back fine, with HDR if the file has it (I have the same combo) Make sure the HDMI input the Shield is plugged into is setup for "Deep Color" on the LG OLED.

Starting to think no perfect solution at this stage.
Also I don't do any refresh rate switching. I leave it at 60 and let the tv do the "5 frames" thing. (120 divided by 24 = 5 frames each) I set dejudder to 2 or 3 and deblur to 0.
Have you tried TruMotion --> USER --> both set to 0? Also might be worth trying Krypton 17.1 just to see if it changes anything.

Yes, if it's encoded into the file correctly. (HDR10)

Ah, skins. Aeon Nox is fine (haven't tried MQ) but one annoying bit is that I can never seem to get artist slideshow to work. Does anyone know the right settings and install options for ANY skin (I'm not too bound to Aeon) for this to work?

I'm going nuts today because SPMC on my shield gets timed out error messages for all my Windows SMB shares. I do not have this problem at all with my LiberElec Chromebox.
any idea what could be causing this problem? i've never had it before and don't understand why it would occur with one box and not all of them on my network

Not without at least a Debug log (wiki).
That said, if you're using a wired connection check/change your ethernet cables. If you're using wifi, change the location of your Shield to see if you're getting interference or change to a wired connection.

i'm using a wired connection, no problem at all with it as other apps like netflix work fine

EDIT ----- FIXED
I just got a new 24 port Dlink switch. didn't realize there is some type of security toggle on it that would screw up file sharing settings. flicked this just to see if it would fix the problem and for some reason it did. not sure why this effects Android and not the chromebox but it did

anyone have any files that they know are HDR? i have some 2160p files that i assumed would show as HDR. i guess i'm not 100% certain i have things etup correctly in SPMC to ensure HDR files play correctly or even if there is a way to tell if my file is HDR

ok, with my LG OLED anytime i playback an HDR file on netflix or amazon i get a notice in the upper right corner that says HDR. I can't get that notice to appear with any of these sample files. i copied all the recommended settings for SPMC here

except i don't have video scaling method = lanczos3 - optimised listed at all as an option
EDIT - this ended up being my problem a note by Koying fixed things
"Note: with SPMC 16.6, you must disable MediaCodec (Surface) to use upscaling or deinterlacing. However, if you disable MediaCodec (Surface), then HDR content will not be displayed in HDR."
can anyone with an LG OLED confirm you get that HDR notifcation with any of the sample hdr files?
i have deep color set for the input my shield is on not sure what the problem could be
