From you pic it doesn't appear that you are using the default skin.  Switch to the default (Estuary) skin then see if you still don't see the audio settings.

If you still don't, post a Debug log (wiki).

Apparently Apple TV 4K now can autoswitch dynamic range and refresh rate but not resolution.

 Any help?

I thought of doing that. I'll try tonight even though the akin (Artic Zephyr) shows all the options I need on my Windows computers.

You sure about that?  Although, it would make sense as the output resolution would be whatever you had set it at for your TV i.e. 1080p, 4k etc.  I suppose if the Apple TV 4k's scaler is good enough (and presumably its better than the Shields) then there would be no need to change the resolution at all on the ATV.

This is the one thing that bugs me about the Shield (well, second thing after no dynamic range switching), the upscaling isn't the best.
Cheers

Yes although the ATV 4K cannot auto Resolution switch (yet). Visually it's picture output and upscaling is of high quality so really there is no need for that Res. switch feature IMHO.

Thanks for that.

Sorry I know this is a Shield thread but I'm getting more & more interested in the Apple TV4K.   The advantages over the Shield for me is that upscaling is apparently much better, it has auto dynamic range switching and the real clincher is access to a wide range of (cheap-ish) 4k movie rentals/purchases on iTunes.

Much as I like the Shield, I'm aware that the upscaling issue has been known for some time and still not been addressed and the dynamic range switching is also known about to a lesser extent but has recently become a bigger issue with more folks moving to 4k TV's. Nvidia simply seems to be dragging its heels over these issues which have, for me at least, taken on a greater and greater importance to the extent I'm looking elsewhere.

The biggest downside of the Apple is that you can't run Kodi on it (at least not easily as far as I can see) although MrMC gets good reviews although I have never tried it - would obviously prefer Kodi if at all possible.

Its a shame, the Shield is otherwise excellent!

Mmm... What are we talking about?
Reso switching works since Shield 6.0

PS PR to allow "downgrade" of resolution in kodi is coming, btw, to always fit the video.
Whatever good a box upscaler is, it will never be as good as your TV's

Thats actually quite a biggie - native resolution output was always a holy grail in days past and sadly lacking in a lot of otherwise decent media boxes.  That would only leave dynamic range switching to be resolved.

Interesting..........!   Maybe I'll hold off the Apple.

What do you mean by "dynamic range"?

If it's HDR, that works.
Only colorspace and yuv format cannot be changed by Kodi.

I'm going to reply with a big maybe regarding "Not as good as your TV". That is what I used to think as well.

For example you could now do a blind test between a LG C7/B7 55" / 65" OLED TV vs an Apple TV 4K and it would be really difficult to tell which device was doing the picture upscaling.
That is how far we have come with Tech at the end of 2017 with decent Firmware and Hardware under the hood. Smile

Alright I checked the default skin last night and it does not show these options.  I'll upload a debug log tonight.

Yes, sorry, Colorspace is what I should have written. No idea how dynamic range got stuck in my head.

Speaking of upscaling and which device does what....Is there ANY way to tell, apart from using your eyes (within a log file or by some information overlay) if Kodi is doing some sort of upscaling?

I've been monitoring the upsclaing/colorspace discussion rather closely and it while trying various recommended settings posted by users (i.e. Shield at 4k, kodi at 1080p) it is sometimes very difficult to see the difference or if settings are applied the right way.

I've recently changed from connecting the Shield directly to a 4KTV and using ARC to return the audio to an older receiver, to connecting the Shield to a new 4K and upscaling capable receiver and I'm having problems getting the right configuration or at least actually get proof I'm on the right path.
