I am using alpha kodi 18 with my shield and have no issues. Actually better then 17.6

Can you kindly recommend a stablish nightly/alpha build. Resolution switching is a staple for me. Also is voice to text available in Kodi 18? If so how?

Use the "Over the network" feature on the Shield. Make sure Plex Media Server is up to date, then go to Settings > Storage & reset > Over the network, and turn it on. Then you can transfer from you PC to the Shield just like any other network device.
NOTE: for external storage you will need to use the "NVIDIA_SHIELD" folder created on that storage.

You need to turn on "Show hidden files/folders" on your PC, then navigate to /internal/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/userdata/
