RE: nVidia Shield TV (2015 & 2017 Models) - UPDATED: May 25, 2018 - noggin - 2018-09-04

Just upgraded to the Beta Shield Experience 7.1 through the preview programme.  Good to see they've added Power Off and Restart options alongside Sleep that you get at the top of the System/Settings menu you get when you click on the cog icon top right.

I also got 1080p120 output from my Shield TV into my Sony XF9005 (aka XBR 900F in the US). This required a bit of EDID spoofing with my HD Fury Vertex, but the Shield and TV both run 1080p120 OK, and Kodi will see the 120p option and offer it in the whitelist.

I downloaded some 120fps slow motion stuff on YouTube and re-timed it to run at 120fps real-time - and it seems to work!  Interesting avenue - if very niche!  I don't see HFR hitting mainstream media just yet - but the BBC and EBU were trialling HFR (2160/100p I think) at the European Athletics Champs last month, and Tokyo 2020 may well be originated in 4320/120p...

So is it Kodi issue or shield issue ?

Hello,
Does someone has a link to sample test file to check REC 709 - REC 2020 conversion on the shield TV with 4K 60Hz 4:2:2 REC 2020 settings ?
thanks

I want to know this also...also what exactly is the problem with shield not being able to dynamically change these settings automatically?

It's corrected with the last update normally, but I would like to check by myself Wink

Having several strange issues with my up to now flawless Shield TV. Recently, when trying to watch anything on either Netflix or Prime, they play like they are in FFWD mode, and no audio. Have tried everything I can think of , restart , reboot, etc. Kodi playback, YouTube acting normal.
Recently updated to Leia Beta, noticing that all content is playing only in stereo, even though media flags in Kodi showing 5.1. Audio setting in Shield & Kodi appear correct.
I got in the USB version of that cheap $10 remote last week, and it mostly works well, the Power button puts it in standby. Love having the volume control ability.

You can test it out with these color bars:
1) SMPTE HD Color Bar - https://mega.nz/#!sVdhCIaL!lY9O2rdNAfrJuFnhHXZvyUrC3CuqxQFUY8nEG2N28D8
2) SMPTE HD BT.2020 mapped Color Bar - https://mega.nz/#!dBNX1Q6a!oB0NSHVy5fKXTnA22xBmaH8AmF_tc5TS8Nc3OiIrSe4

Compare the HD color bar with BT.709 and BT.2020 outputs on the Shield. They should look similar. Play the BT.2020 mapped color bar with BT.2020 output on the Shield. If it looks different from the HD color with BT.709 output, then you have to figure out why your display is doing that. Display should show the mapped color bar exactly like the BT.709 color bar.

I was having the same problem and after some googling I found out that changing the Surround Sound Settings in the Shield to "auto" solved this specific problem. YMMV.

I hope someone can help me.

Since a few weeks I am having problems playing large media files (mkv) with Kodi on my Shield TV 2017.
The larger the audio and video transfer is, the more problem Kodi on the shield TV has has playing the file (constant buffering), e.g. a mkv with 3D and 7.1 dts-ma. Kodi is connected wireless to my Netgear Router R7800 and gets the files from my NAS, and Asustor AS1004T (with SMB). Strangely enough the problem is worse on 5ghz (speed 150mbps+) than 2,4ghz (25mbps), although the router is just 5 meters away and 1 small wall. I already did a factory reset of the Shield TV. A connection test on the shield tv gave me a download speed of 150mbps+ which must be more than enough to play large files.

Didn't see anyone post this yesterday, but the new Nvidia 7.1 experience is up...

One of the fixes (and there are many), is the missing power off buttons that were talked about above.

They are sweet, keeping the device up to date even if it being a few years old now Smile

nVidia Shield TV (2015 & 2017 Models) - UPDATED: May 25, 2018 - ars92 - 2018-09-12

I updated from the last nougat to Experience 7.1

Must say im happy enough. Upgrade went as smooth as every other release, home launcher looks cool, easy access to sleep and restart, and my hdr movies arent washed out anymore on my 1080p plasma Smile

Such a great purchase as this thing is nearing 3 years old now

Now if hulu could just update their app so that the main menu does not feel like its running at 24fps...that would be great lol
