Weird deinterlace artifacts - Kolabor - 2017-01-20

Hi guys. Sorry if someone asked for this before, but I couldn't find it.

I have a problem with my RPi 3 and Libreelec (Kodi 17). I'm using latest beta version 7.95.1 and TVHeadend is on my home server. When I try to deinterlace DVB-T content (which is h264 here in Poland) I got weird artifacts on high motion objects. Those artifacts appear only when contrast is high (so the moving object is e.g. RED and the background is white). Those artifacts looks like red and green (mostly green to be honest) short lines. It's not HDMI cable, TV or RPi itself. Progressive content looks good.

This happens only on "adv" or "adv2x" deinterlace method which is only one acceptable to watch. The "bob" deinterlacer looks much worse.

It is very hard to make a screenshot to show it. Anyone had such problems?

Edit: And yes, I'm using MMAL acceleration. Tried also OMXPlayer. Same effect.

Hard to imagine what you are seeing without a screenshot.
Could you record a 1 minute program that shows the problem (and upload to a hosting site like dropbox/google drive).

RE: Weird deinterlace artifacts - Kolabor - 2017-01-20

OK. I'll try to record a sample. Stay tuned.

Here is a screenshot from MPC-HC playing recorded short sample: http://imgur.com/a/sJJoq
And here is same recorded file played using Kodi with adv(x2) deinterlacer: http://imgur.com/a/XAdqD

Notice green horizontal lines on second screenshot. Those are the artifacts.

*bump*

Any ideas popcornmix?

I wanna add fuel to the fire Smile. Creeping lines look awful on RPi. The sample of dvb-t2 stream from LE+TVHeadend

Ah yes, I didn't see you'd added a link to the sample.

I have tested and I can see green artifacts when image scrolls from left to right.
Reverting to an earlier firmware doesn't have that issue, so it looks like a regression. I will investigate.

Could you test this firmware?

It has a fix for the green artefacts.

RE: Weird deinterlace artifacts - Kolabor - 2017-01-22

How can I update the firmware on RPi?

Probably easiest to insert sdcard into computer (e.g. windows).
The boot partition containing start.elf/fixup.dat/bootcode.bin etc will appear.

Copy start.elf/fixup.dat/bootcode.bin from the zip file I linked to onto sdcard, overwriting the current ones (make a backup copy first).

It looks fine when using mmal. Disable omx if you have it enabled.

@popcornmix - do we know which build introduced the problem? I'm wondering if it is the same thing I see with Kodi 18 Milhouse test builds (although it looks different).

I think #1201 is the first build with the regression.

I never use omx, always mmal. Which LE build are you using? Can you upload a screenshot of the video?

Milhouse #1119.
Make sure that Kodi is outputting at 50Hz and "Sync playback to display" should be disabled.
