Having tried a gigabit adapter, it still remains, basically turning into slow motion with no sound. Hmmm.

If you are playing 4K content, then you should really be mounting via fstab. It will give you a lot of performance improvements, including readahead (load in to page cache).
1000M (Gigabit Ethernet) isn't the solution. Mounting shares in an optimal way is. Let us know if you need any help with this.

Should you have problems after that, send me a message and I'll look in to them.

Hi Sam, I was looking at picking up a Vero 4K but I admit the fast ethernet has been holding me back. Fstab sounds awesome but my tech and apparently googlefu is weak. I got the gist of it I think, where instead of using the mounting in unraid you can mount a share directly using the OS. It seems just about post I come across someone asking for help they are told not to bother and it doesn't go much further. Is there a guide out there you could point me to with how to setup fstab?  Currently I am running an Unraid server feed to a chromebox with Libreelec using NFS if that matters.

Hi

There's a guide here: https://discourse.osmc.tv/t/configuring-fstab-based-samba-share-mounts/38167

I think I fixed some of those issues, especially with internal nfs and smb during v18 cycle. For smb the key improvement was some legacy code from 1900 something and for nfs the chunksizes that were quite low. Worth a try at least.

I have your NFS chunksize patches: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/osmc/osmc/master/package/mediacenter-osmc/patches/vero3-083-bigger-chunk-size.patch

I will check for SMB improvements.

One of the Samba guys has purchased a Vero 4K (he should have it now, or shortly) and he says that he wants to improve the performance of SMB so that fstab based mounts are not necessary for high bitrate content

Looking at this guide, its windows share based. Are there any additional complexities if looking to use fstab with Qnap NFS shares and MySQL kodi library?

NFS shares are better performance wise.
You may get away with just mounting via Kodi.

There's no formal guide, but some pointers here: https://discourse.osmc.tv/t/nfs-mounting-issues/557.

If you have any problems, start a post on our forum and we can help you get it set up

Cheers

I access all of my media via an FTP server. Works faster than NFS for me.

For anybody on the fence, I just noticed the Vero 4K on sale, one day only, for £99.

Does this mean "we've got a new product coming out, so we're trying to shift stocks of the old one"??

Nope.

To close the loop, after some short testing the fstab mount wasn't doing much for my playback even with a USB3 gigabit adapter, so I also changed advanced settings to add a bigger buffer, and 9/10 files play just fine now. I think the ones that still have issues could be a codec or encode issue, and for now it seems to have sorted the majority of the playback. I'll maybe try a full movie at the weekend to see how it fairs.

Thanks for the pointers guys.

interesting thread. some questions

now that deuhd is out i have several 4k rips with hdr all going into a 4k set. will this support both 4k and hdr?

i also have a lot of mvc 3d movies. looks like that support is there. does it work reliably with a 4k set since it need to cha ge res to 1080p?

finally on audio:

what about atmos, dts:x, dsd multi channel (at least decode into pcm) and flac up to 192/24?

this may be my ideal box for the rest of the house. i have found however full 1080p mkv playback requires a wired connection. wireless is never good enough.

i am on jriver right now which is excellent all around but i like competition and want to support this kind of development and support. i do same for plex with plex pass which has been letting me down more and more lately.....

thanks in advance - may purchase one and start testing things.

Brill.

Sunday we'll have our monthly update.
Then we'll be working very hard on the Stretch update for OSMC with testing available next week.

Then back to 3D, V4L2 improvements and standby support.

Thanks everyone. I am new and I have been searching since yesterday and I even watched a YouTube video in Italian....
