so I am able to see my movies that are located on my external drive that is connected to my pi on my computer through google chrome. My problem is when I go to stream it from chrome it does not load it brings up the streaming window and only shows the buffering/loading screen

Not quite understanding your process.
I only see you talking about Google Chrome. Where is Kodi in the equation?
