Macbook overheating - adrian7000 - 2017-05-29

Hello,

I migrated to Mac OS a few months back and installed Kodi as I use it on my windows laptop and raspberry pi too. I installed Krypton and quickly saw that it results in my Mac hitting temperatures of 80 degrees and I saw a lot of people having this problem so I decided to try Kodi 16 and it worked fine while playing a video but as soon as I would pause it the temperature would start rising like crazy. Hitting CMD+H and hiding Kodi window would solve the problem. So it only overheated when both the video was paused and when Kodi was in focus.

Since now the subtitles vulnerability was detected I was forced to update to 17.3 today. I removed the app and library folders to make a clean install of 17.3. Now the problem is completely opposite. Temperature shoots up to 80 degrees when watching the video and if I pause the video, temperature starts decreasing regardless of if Kodi is in focus or not.

I am using the default estuary skin. When I keep track of "CPU-KODI" usage while debugging is on in the top left corner it never goes above 15% while the video is playing although all cpus (CPU0, CPU1, CPU2, CPU3) are showing 0.00.

Here is the log: http://paste.ubuntu.com/24702719/ Started Kodi stayed in the menu(temp 43 degrees), started playing the video file and after 2 and a half minutes temperature is 77 degrees.

Thanks in advance, if you need more info I would be happy to provide them as this makes Kodi unusable for me :/

Disable dithering for a test in settings-system-display settings (expert level needed to see the option)

Dithering is already disabled by default for me.

Is video acceleration turned on or off?

RE: Macbook overheating - adrian7000 - 2017-05-30

This is how it's been: http://imgur.com/a/XJwex

Now I just entered Kodi for 2 minutes to try and change the video acceleration setting for testing. Didn't even play the video file but temperature jumped up on 78 degrees just while going through the menus. Log: http://paste.ubuntu.com/24712607/

Nothing new? I can set up teamviewer or something so you can take a look if you want.

That wouldn't help given the low amount of free time for the project i have currently. I can't reproduce the issue with my macs - which doesn't mean they are not there - but means i am not able to investigate it any further.

i can also relate to the overheating problem you are facing in my mac. i hope we can find some sort of solution otherwise it would make it hard to use kodi.
