[solved for v18] Some DVDs do not play - mosquitogang201 - 2017-07-06

I'm having trouble getting certain DVDs, particularly newer ones, to play. Other DVDs play just fine. This is on Arch Linux with Kodi 17.3. I have compiled and tried the master and vpupdates git branches; neither solve the problem. I have also tried forcing a region code and running both with/without hardware acceleration. Attached is the relevant part of the logfile when trying the 2017 Beauty and the Beast DVD. It seems like the errors I get are similar to another recent thread.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Should I file a bug report? Thanks in advance for your help.

@mosquitogang201 could you please enable debugging in kodi and post the full log of this issue occurring via pastebin.

I have attached full debug logs both starting with an empty userdata folder (to rule out any addons). I downgraded Kodi to test and found that the DVD plays perfectly in Kodi 16.1. Still no luck getting it to play in Kodi 17.

Did you try a nightly build?

RE: Some DVDs do not play - mosquitogang201 - 2017-07-10

With today's build from git, the DVD will load when VAAPI MPEG2 acceleration is disabled. It will not initially load with VAAPI enabled. There are two menus, the first asks to select a language, and then the second is the title menu. After I started playing the movie, I stopped and re-enabled VAAPI. Then I could play the movie with VAAPI and access the title menu just fine (as Kodi had saved my position, bypassing the first menu). It seems like Kodi/VAAPI gets hung up on the first menu asking for language. Under 17.3, the DVD would not load even with VAAPI disabled, so there is improvement.

Please post a sample

could be related and therefore fixed with Kodi 18?!

I have attached a sample. Issue can be re-created by opening the VIDEO_TS.IFO file in Kodi after unzipping, with Intel graphics and VAAPI enabled.

Confirmed working with today's git build. Thank you for the prompt fix!
