Recommend me a Raspberry Pi remote - docwra - 2017-07-17

Morning all,

I'm working on a new carpc build of kodi which runs on a Raspberry Pi 3b machine. I'm looking for a suitable remote, any ideas?

Would need to be:

- Long battery life
- USB chargeable
- Small and thin
- Responsive in kodi

Have a look at the rii25. Seems to fit your needs.
Edit: this remote has a couple of ir buttons which might be useless on the pi without dongle, btw

Picked this up, pretty simple if that's what you're looking for.

Anyone tried the OSMC remote on LibreELEC?

Will it work out of the box?

Also looking at something like this, but not sure about all the buttons

Ideally it would look like a Nvidia shied remote, thats probably the best and most responsive I have ever used.

I'll try and remember to leave a message when the batteries run down (I'm told over a year).

Just mentioning it since it was on the 'must have' list.
Penlites are ofcourse fine ;-)

Should be fine.
I wouldnt worry too much about remote buttons, as they can easily be reassigned if needed

Where are you located and what is your budget including shipping?

Raspberry Pi 3 has integrated Bluetooth support so should be able to get most such remotes working is they follow the standard specification for a such remote without having to buy a dongle. Not tried any of these listed below myself, but if they work then I think that the Xiaomi Mi TV Remote should be the best compromise between cost and quality, (Xiaomi is well know for making great quality for low prices), and on the plus side the Xiaomi Mi TV Remote looks and feels like the Nvidia Shield TV Remote, (I have an Nvidia Shield TV myself and my parents have a Xiaomi Mi TV).

By the looks of that remote it is probably a OEM remote from FiveNinjas who makes Slice media player and is so yes that should work out of the box:

Look for the Rii Mini i8.

It has a long battery life and is rechargeable using the included charging cord. It's small and thin, and comes with its own wifi dongle. You can even select the colour of the keypad. The only reason I have it is for Kodi, and it works just fine with my Raspberry Pi.
