@Mount81

Sent away for asrock J5005 for £111.

This will tide me over until intel gets its act together either releasing new hardware or dare I say it drivers which support HDR.

Its replacing an Asrock n3700-itx, so hopefully performance gains are worth the upgrade alone.

Keep us posted on how it performs.  What RAM, storage, and case will you be using?

RE: Intel Gemini Lake - keoma - 2018-05-05

Using NUC with J5005. Some strange bug with framerate switching on TV. Worked fine while configuring on monitor.

Ubuntu 18.04 and Kodi 17.6

yes, same here. Asrock j4105-itx. Almost every time after Kodi starts need to switch off/on my TV in order to see a picture Sad
i'm on Milhouse test builds of Libreelec. Libreelec stable won't start, xorg (driver) problem.

Try to run kernel 4.16 or later. It has issues with 4.14

Works now

If your running windows 10 on Gemini lake, have you tried using Media Player Home Cinema v1.7.16 and MADVR ?

RE: Intel Gemini Lake - sala_mander - 2018-05-07

I'm currently running an Asrock 4105-itx with Ubuntu 18.04 and Kodi 17.6.

Runs beautifully - can output 2160p smoothly but of course no HDR.

The only issue I'm finding at the moment is a tiny bit of purple corruption that appears sporadically in very light scenes in some videos. Seems to only affect a certain colour range. Still trying to figure out the exact range or situation, but could possibly be immature drivers. I found that any kernel prior to 4.15 had difficulty with some of the hardware on the Asrock board (wake on usb didnt work, etc).

For those who are interested: NUCblog made a review for the pentium based gemini lake NUC (J5005)

RE: Intel Gemini Lake - keoma - 2018-05-08

Are you using a TV? What kernel are you using? I still get "signal lost" even on 4.17 drm-tip. Any special settings to get it working?

RE: Intel Gemini Lake - sala_mander - 2018-05-09

Not using a TV...right now at home using a Philips 42-inch FHD monitor. Also tested at work using an LG 32" 4K HDR monitor. That framerate-switching bug doesnt manifest in either case...but good to be aware of since I'm considering buying a 4K HDR TV for home...

My kernel is the current 14.5.0-20-generic available in the bionic main repo. I've also tried 14.6.0-5 to try and fix the video corruption I mentioned above, but no change. Now experimenting with ffmpeg builds since I found that building ffmpeg myself using the latest stable source reduced the issue considerably, but didnt fix it completely...

RE: Intel Gemini Lake - N01tra - 2018-05-12

Hi,

Could someone with a Gemini Lake (preferably the NUC7CJYH), Ubuntu 18.04 and Kodi 17.6 test something for me?
The "no signal after switch resolution from [email protected]" bug affects me too, but my own testing shows some odd results.

When using the Estuary skin, switching back to 60hz (from 24) works; no loss of signal!
When using the Aeon Nox or the Arctic skin, switching back to 60hz (from 24) results in loss of signal!
When using the Aeon Nox or the Arctic skin, switching back to 60hz (from 24) results watching SD content; no loss of signal!

So it seems the skin and the content type (HD/SD) somehow has some kind of impact on the issue.
Ofcourse I'll re-test it asap, but that could take a few days to a week.

RE: Intel Gemini Lake - Rumpelstiltskin - 2018-05-13

I have the nuc7pjyh and this problem does me every time I step from HDM1 (Kodi) to HDM2 (Sky) then go back to Kodi
It's not the skin, it goes even if I stay in bash

RE: Intel Gemini Lake - N01tra - 2018-05-13

Different situation and not comparable as I'm not switching between HDMI ports..

RE: Intel Gemini Lake - Daveydguk - 2018-05-13

Hi.

Anybody had problems with the boot priorities on the asrock J5005 bios ver 1.0. Ive tried all sata ports with secure boot turned off and reset cmos. Using a sata ssd drive with windows 10 from previous pc.

The bios sees the drive connected in the bios storage screen but its not present in the boot priority options ?

I also have a sata DVD and this isnt visible either, but is in the storage bios screen.

Thanks
