How to get linux to recognize the display correctly? - gaiko - 2018-03-30

I tried posting on regular linux forum but since my box is specific for kodi and I think many people here setup htpc with TVs I would post here. I installed kodi on xubuntu and it seems to work fine with one exception. It said my 55" sony TV is a 37" sony. Normally I wouldn't care except I can't set 1920x1080 rez without it displaying beyond the TV (sorry for my english, not exactly sure how to say it, when I put full screen I can't see the menu bar and parts of the application windows. The TV does not allow changing v/h hold so I can't do that. I tried playing with xrandr but I am not totally sure how to use it so no lucky. For what its worth its connected to my little intel nuc by HDMI. Please help!!

This is called overscan / underscan. Consult your TV's manual on howto adjust it. It might be called: Fixed, Just Scan or something else.
