Ripped DVDs? - dshorrosh - 2018-05-11

Greetings.  This has me stumped - after upgrade to v17.6, some ripped DVD ISOs now look horrible.  They either display as letterboxed within a 4:3 display, or letterbox NOT wihin 4:3 but the image does not extend fully to the left or right sides of the display.  They are also exceptionally grainy.

FWIW I played one of the DVDs in a player connected to the same TV via HDMI -- full screen, not hi-def but certainly better imaging.

I'm running on a Win7 PC to Sony A1E via HDMI.  MKV files ripped from BD look fine.

Thanks in advance.

Have you shrunk the DVD (from 8GB to 4GB) when you ripped the DVD, or is it a bit for bit rip to ISO?

If it's the former, then it's a more compressed rip and might be the issue.

Judging the BD rips to MKV, these have better conversion.

Thanks for your quick reply.  The ISOs in question are uncompressed via DVDRip, which was used to create all the other ISOs.

Ok, have you seen if they look grainy etc via another player, such as VLC?

If you are getting the same issue with VLC, then it would look like a ripping issue rather than a Kodi issue.
