Support for split rar files - publicENEMY - 2018-08-03

Kodi has support for split rar files. EMM supports split rar files.

It would be nice if TMM also support split rar files.

If it already exist, do let me know how to scrape movie split in rar files.

I also would like to say that this is by far the best media manager for now. I used to swear by EMM, but recently it crashe often. After I switch to TMM, not only does what EMM does, TMM is also faster.

Thanks for a great product.

Well, we'd like to have a clean movie library.
Keeping them in release / packed format does not really fit into this.

We cannot use native mediainfo, the file renaming et all won't work, and it's quite inconvinient to work with (we have to support win/mac/linux!)
Beside there is no space gaining benefit in keeping the RARs (i guess they're just packet with 0% compression)

So for now... it's rather unlikely that we will implement this... i'm sorry...

 Ok.

Anyway, I just mention why split some of my movies in rar.

I stored my movies in cloud. For my cloud provider, it is more efficient if the file does not exceed 8gb+-. For that reason, I split my movies that are more than 8gb into multiple rar file with zero compression. The results, smooth playback and faster seeking movie stored in cloud.

For now I just use EMM for rar split movies.

All the best to TMM team. Smile

Ok this isn't a criticism... but I honestly want to know the benefit in raring (and further more in splitting the rars of) media files. I have seen no signifigant benefits  in compressing media files (they are already in most cases compressions). So honestly If there's a benefit I'm missing I'd like to know. Why not split the files into media (pt1,pt2....)

To answer.
1. The benefits of splitting.
a. Cloud streaming performs better.
b. Seeking from cloud streaming performs better.
2. The benefits of rar splitting vs pt1 pt2 etc
a. rar is easily accessible
b. rar have very good gui tools
c. you can queue splitting task

I already mentioned that rar is used only for splitting. No compression is done as movie files is already compressed.

I hope this answer your questions. Smile
