RE: 2018 - Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K - theo08 - 2020-09-03

quick question:

does the fire TV 4k work with Hyperion/Ambilight with 4k HDR playback?

i am running Hyperion.NG on my RPI4. The plan was to install the Hyperion Android Grabber on the Fire 4k and then stream the info to the RPI while playback on the fire 4k

thanks

You should just use the latest Fritsch version until v19 becomes stable enough for daily use. I've had nothing but success with it since he fixed the audio delay.

Which build should be used for the firestick? I dont see the fritschfiretv build in the list anymore.

Those mirrors according to https://mirrors.kodi.tv/mirmon.html are good to use in general because they keep a very long archive of older releases.

RE: 2018 - Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K - Quartermass - 2020-09-13

I'm after a device to use without an ethernet connection that comes with a suitable remote. It's going to get stuck into a wall mounted 28" LCD in my home office so I can watch streams etc when I'm on my exercise bike.  I have a fantastic nVidia Shield setup in my living room with AVR and a logitech remote etc and it's perfect but for this room I don't need that level of complexity and just want something simple.

I've also not done a huge amount of research before finding this. It seems modestly priced and to do all I want.

Am I right to settle on this?

Sure but try to get the lowest price because a new 4K stick might come out this Fall.

Thanks Kodroid - I'll pick up one second hand.

RE: 2018 - Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K - fritsch - 2020-09-14

Do you know sth about the new stick?

No, but if you look at the wiki history of the Fire Stick, the first one came out in Nov. 2014, the 2nd came out in Oct. 2016, and the 3rd one (ours) came out in Oct. 2018.

So if they continue to follow that pattern we are getting a new Stick this October/November. They might do something different and delay the next one until 2021 because our stick is powerful enough already, but that's less certain than the pattern so far. I would love to see a 4K 2nd Gen stick this November and then an 8K Stick (or box) in 2022.

The upcoming Google "Sabrina" Android TV dongle could also be an interesting option if it comes with a pure Android TV experience and good support.

They will also need to price it competitively if they want anyone to buy it instead of a Fire TV stick.

RE: 2018 - Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K - fritsch - 2020-09-14

Yeah, when I have a device that is TrueHD / DTS-HD capable I would look into their new "Object based format" for Atmos bits on DD+ and TrueHD. I don't want a shield as it does not fit behind my TV.

RE: 2018 - Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K - Tarkus_ - 2020-09-14

I hope the next version comes with more storage and/or better support for expandable storage.  That's my biggest complaint with the current version.
