Raspberry Pi 4 - tredman - 2019-06-24 This looks a proper upgrade: https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/raspberry-pi-4-model-b/ Some highlights: Gigabit ethernet USB 3 Dual micro HDMI output Up to 4gb RAM RE: Raspberry Pi 4 - DNKK - 2019-06-24 Quote:A higher ram option with 265 hardware processing makes it very tempting. RE: Raspberry Pi 4 - sh33p - 2019-06-24 looks promising, but didn't liked the micro hdmi ports, now we need a new cables :\ Raspberry Pi 4 - tredman - 2019-06-24 Can just use a dongle type converter. I have one, think it cost 2 or 3 quid. RE: Raspberry Pi 4 - Klojum - 2019-06-24 No SATA support helas, but hey... not everyone will use it as an office pc replacement. I hope USB booting will be implemented soon. As it's an embedded SBC (Single Board Computer) it would make more logical sense to put an eMMC storage module slot/port on it for embedded storage https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MultiMediaCard#eMMC eMMC storage has many but not all the benefits of SATA-based SSD, however more important for embedded devices; eMMC is small and relatively cheap. Regardless I too would very much like to see future Raspberry Pis get a storage port for local storage that is a better local storage option than SD-cards. It is not about speed (where eMMC cannot compete against SATA SSD), but SD-cards have a horrible tendency to get corrupted when eMMC does not. RE: Raspberry Pi 4 - riddle - 2019-06-24 And whats audio passthrough? For Dolby Atmos, is there are some option for this? RE: Raspberry Pi 4 - Topken - 2019-06-24 Hopefully this gives us proper 4k playback now that we have both h265 and gig ethernet and the USB 3 helps if we are able to use it for storage. Has the PI's never been able to boot from the USB ports? I don't own one but the Pi 4 or 4 b might be my first now that they got such a MASSIVE spec bump over the older ones. The Pi 3B and 3A+ and 3B+ can boot from USB (and Network with the Bs) and I think the current Pi 2 B that is based on the same SoC (the original Pi 2 B SoC was EOLed). Initially you had to boot from a Micro SD card to get to the OS to blow a one-time fuse in the SoC to enable it, but I think with the newest ones it's enabled out of the factory? According to LibreElec blogpost here https://libreelec.tv/2019/06/libreelec-9-2-alpha1-rpi4b/ Quote:The 4B now uses SPI flash for the bootloader. Current firmware supports SD card boot only – Network and USB booting are still on the Pi Foundation to-do list. Looks like 1080p support (including HEVC/h.265 hardware decode) with audio the same as the Pi 3B+ is currently supported - with ongoing work to support 4K, HDR and HD Audio passthrough. The speed at which Pi developers work mean that it's likely to arrive relatively quickly I'd guess, particularly once more boards are in the wild. Not asking for 4K HDR10 video, but even just 1080p HDR10 video? For me personally this has been the biggest flaw of the previous generation and ultimately resulted in being a dealbreaker for Kodi use. Regardless exciting announcement this morning. |
