Poster Defaults to Scrape not Local - Tstrbl - 2019-07-18

Hi All

Just starting to build a movie library and have been creating .nfo files and artwork files using MediaElch.
In MediaElch I select my preferred poster and sometimes modify genre, names etc.

All my video files are in separate folders, and I create an .nfo file and poster.jpg file for each folder.

I then go to the source folder and select the folder for the film and 'Scan to library'.

Kodi then brings up the new information page for the film.
Everything seems correct, except for some reason Kodi is not using the local poster.jpg to generate the preview images.
Does anyone know why? I thought it was supposed to prefer local images.

At the moment I fix this by 'choose art' and then select the file from the item folder. This wastes time.

Am I missing something here? I'm new to video libraries...

Thanks

It does. This indicates there is something wrong with your naming or the artwork itself.

Can you provide a screenshot of your folder that contains the movie so we can see the contents of that movie folder.

Is that what you mean?

RE: Poster Defaults to Scrape not Local - Karellen - 2019-07-18

Yes, that shows me what I needed. See 2. below

The default naming of movie artwork, in all cases, is the long format of <videofilename>-<artworktype>.ext eg... Blade Runner (1984)-poster.jpg
The default naming of movie NFO Files, in all cases, is <videofilename>.nfo eg... Blade Runner (1984).nfo

Short movie artwork names (eg... poster, fanart, etc), and the use of movie.nfo can be used and are scanned only when the following conditions are met...
  1. Movie Folders (wiki) are used
  2. Movies are in separate folders that match the movie title must be Enabled in the Set Content Screen. (wiki)
  3. No corresponding artwork with long format names are present in that movie folder, as these take priority.
  4. movie.nfo has priority but still uses the standard NFO (wiki) naming of <videofilename>.nfo as a fallback.

Thanks, that worked.

And what is the problem with my solution?

RE: Poster Defaults to Scrape not Local - Tstrbl - 2019-07-18

Thank you. That worked.

Just one more quick question. I have a folder with about 100 sub-folders, each one containing a separate video file. Is there any way I can just scan that folder and it will add all of those hundred sub-folders to the video library?

Thanks again

Yes.

From the Context Menu, select Scan for new content on that top folder, as shown in the image. This item is different to Scan to library which will not do what you want in this case.
