Well, you can't run Kodi on an Apple device, as far as I'm aware. There are somewhat similar apps, e.g.MrMC (which is a distant Kodi relative) or Infuse, but they don't support Kodi add-ons.

The Cube has some weird deficiencies - it can't seem to decode VC-1 in hardware, and gives me what look like deinterlacing errors in Disney Plus(!). Also its native apps mostly don't support refresh-rate or resolution switching. (Prime Video does support refresh rate changes, but that's about all. There are some third party apps that handle it - Kodi, of course, and Smart Tube Next for YouTube.)

The Cube also can't handle 24Hz playback. It can handle 23.976Hz, but not 24.000Hz, which is a problem for Netflix movies.

I can't remember if Infuse supports pass-through of Dolby TrueHD on Apple; the Cube definitely doesn't support that in any app. It's quite possible the Apple can't do it either.

I don't think the Apple supports HDR on YouTube. It definitely doesn't support subtitles on BBC iPlayer and can't do 4K playback on iPlayer either. The Cube can do 4K playback on iPlayer, but not in HLG HDR and only at 59.94Hz, not 50, so that's pretty useless too.

So, with the latest version of Kodi and Cube software, is there any combination of settings that will give me pass-through DD+ audio? Bonus points if it also allows HD audio to be correctly decoded to multi-channel PCM, but that's much less important for me.

Hello,  i notice that  Lpcm floating  kodi is always available on Fire TV cube,  and but the latest kodi nightly version are too oldest,  and a lot of features missed (tv client recorder, etc)

Someone could make a newer version with Lpcm 7.1 support ?

merci à vous

Is the latest Fire TV Cube a good Kodi player for all those 4K HDR 10-bit Dolby Vision and Atmos rips etc? I have 4K HDR projector and use PC with Kodi now, with constant problems of rips not displaying correct colors - it seems to be impossible to make HDR passthrough work with Kodi. I'm considering buying a new Receiver (my old Denon doesn't have HDMI) and buy Fire TV Cube for playback. Is included ethernet 1Gb or not? What are the problems I'd have. Is it worth it or are there better devices for the money? Will the cube pass good audio to the receiver I'm OK if it's 5-channel sound, even if not techincally the latest Armos/DTS HD but better if it can. No sound for those is a show-stopper of course. I intend to use a network share USB 3.0 6Gb HDD as a storage. I'd appreciate the advice.

No.

No. You could use your own gigabit Ethernet USB adapter if you want, but you'd still be limited to about 300Mb/s. The supplied adapter is 100Mb.

Pass through audio probably won't work, and image quality is poor. It can't handle dual-layer Dolby Vision. It also can't handle less common codecs, such as VC-1. And there's no support for 3D, if you care about that.

No, and yes.

The cube is designed to play internet streaming video. It is also designed to double up as an Alexa smart speaker. It does an okay job of that. It is not designed to run Kodi or play blu ray rips.

Probably not.

Thanks. What are a good devices then for blu ray rips? Something that can pass through all modern audio standards. My shiny new Onkyo receiver has a dozen of them: Dolby Vision (not required but a nice to have), Dolby Atmos, Dolby True HD, Dolby Surround, THX Select, DTS:X, DTS Virtual:X, DTS: Neural:X, DTS-HD.

For now, I tried my Fire Stick 4K from another TV, and the results are weird:

- Kodi has 2 audio devices listed - "RAW audio/Android..." and "...Kodi (recommended)". If I select the Android one, I have a "pass-through" toggle with only 2 dolby toggles (no DTS). When I select the Android device, I have 2 extra toggles: DTS and DTS-HD. But if I select any ot those toggles - I get no sound at all. Receiver shows PCM. If I only select general "pass-through" toggles - I have sound, but my receiver always shows DD light, so no DTS is working. I think it's resampled to DD. And I don't think any recent variations of DD are working either.

- Fire TV Stick has "best available" in Audio. I tried all options, but they either don't work well at all, or do the similar thing: DD is shown on the Receiver. Cube may be different, but not sure about that...

- Video seems to work fine, but HDR doesn't want to work with my projector, which is supposed to work  in HDR mode. If Fire TV Stick is set up for HDR (12-bit or 10-bit color), and Projector is set to HDR or Aito, colors are washed out. But if I set the sitck to 10bit color and Projector to SDR - it looks fine. I guess colors are remapped to SDR, I can live with that. I had a huge problem with Kodi on PC that couldn't work that out.

All advies welcome.

The OSMC Vero 4K+ can pass through pretty any audio stream - it certainly handles Dolby Atmos very nicely. It also handles 10-bit HDR HEVC nicely. But it won't do Dolby Vision, and isn't much good for paid-for internet services (e.g. Netflix). If you want something that can handle DV UHD blu ray rips, then the latest version of the Nvidia Shield TV might do you.

You won't get audio pass through working on any Fire TV device.

I hope it's ok to ask this here. I have a problem with the Fire TV Cube's behavior when opening apps and goint back to the main menu. First off, I always used the Wolf Launcher and it wasn't an issue there but since Amazon did restrict custom launcher use I have the following issue:

I open Kodi and it loads.
I hit the home button to go back to the default launcher.
I open Kodi again without having opened any other app.
Kodi starts as if I "powered it off", meaning it starts new instead of loading it from memory.

Now the super weird thing is, when I exit out of Kodi with the Home key and open the Wolf Launcher manually and start Kodi again from there it loads it from memory, meaning it doesn't start new but just resumes. I just doesn't when I do it from the default launcher.
Is there something wrong or is this expected behavior when you use the default Fire TV launcher? It's really annoying and happens with other apps like Twitch too sometimes.

Howdy all.  Just got a Fire TV Cube 2nd gen recently and was wondering if I should install 32 or 64 bit Kodi 19.4?  I followed the documentation, but didn't realize it was old and installed 32bit 18.1 first.  Not sure it it's as simple as just downloading the new apk and installing over the old, but wasn't sure about going from 32 to 64 bit.

RE: 2019 - Amazon Fire TV Cube - AMLogic S922Z - JamesX - 2022-07-27

The Android running on the Cube 2nd gen is 32bit, so you really need to go with the 32bit apk

About version... I went ahead and installed 20 2nd rc and up to now didn't have any issues. I guess it wouldn't be a great idea to go with 20 if you use many plugins. Mine at least were fine.

RE: 2019 - Amazon Fire TV Cube - AMLogic S922Z - OtheA - 2022-07-27

Yup, I'm already at 19.4.  In place upgrade went great just installed the new version over the old.  Not sure if something updated on the FireTV or what, but everything was working fine then all of a sudden, the pass-through stopped working unless I change the pass-through device from AudioTrack (IEC) to AudioTrack (RAW).
