RE: NVIDIA Shield TV Pro (2019 new model) - dan958 - 2020-01-07

I currently use a pi3. Video playback is fine for the quality files I am playing, but menus can be laggy and can freeze up. Would the Nvidia shield 2019 pro/non-pro be a big enough upgrade to justify the costs? (I would also use the nvidia streaming functionality)

In my experience the shield is very snappy. I've never had the thought "this thing is laggy".

Hi, so if connected directly to the C9 and you play a movie from Kodi with TrueHD Atmos, The Dolby Atmos banner displays on the TV screen?

That's not what he said. Never the less with the build above chances are high you get it working.
Sorry, that is what it sounded like he was saying, you are indeed correct, with the build above you can indeed send TrueHD Atmos directly to TVs with ‘built in’ processing of that format.

Thanks.

Just got a Shield Pro and installed Kodi through google play, version 18.5 2019116 .
The PVR plugins are missing as whole, how can I install TVH?

Solved, the problem occurs when I restore previous linux backup, starting from scratch the plugins are there. Just need to do a lot of more settings now ...

Any advantage in paying an extra $50 for the Pro model versus stick?  All I need is Kodi and Android TV apps.

Probably not, as long as none of your apps are 64 bit. No plex server if you ever want to run that on the shield, no Dolphin emulator (both are 64bit).

Will you be playing 4K videos?

They are identical in 4K video performance.

I initially had the tube version and it struggled/crashed Kodi while playing 4K videos so I changed it for the Pro version. Don't forget the RAM differences.

Wow, that's unexpected, I did not see that in any reviews. Thanks for the heads up. I've already ordered the stick version and only watch 1080p movies, but I'll be on the look out for issues.

I guess they weren't testing Kodi.

Yes there have been reports of issues with the cylinder. Nothing conclusive though.

Pro model seems to work good for everyone unless you get a bad one.

I had some issues in December with high bitrate 4k HDR10 + TrueHD (ATMOS) files from my NAS (mounted via Shield - not Kodi) on the Tube Version.
But with newer Builds the the same files play fine - but maybe it had to do with a factory reset I made too.

RE: NVIDIA Shield TV Pro (2019 new model) - sdsnyr94 - 2020-01-17

I bought a tube just before Christmas, ended up returning it within a week and got the Pro.  4K/UHD videos would crash in Kodi, Plex, and MrMC. 1080p played flawless. Also, out of the box, and after a factory reset, the tube felt sluggish.. slower than the 2015/2017 shields I have.

I don't have a single complaint about the Pro. Perhaps the tube will stabilize with time and a couple of updates... but the extra $50 is worth it at the moment.
