RE: YouTube - jim_p - 2024-11-16 (2024-11-16, 00:34)MoojMidge Wrote: @jim_p - as mentioned previously the problems you were having with v7.0.9.2 was simply because you had not configured the addon correctly, and it was the same issue you were having before enabling InputStream.Adaptive. The addon has a Setup Wizard to help people configure it correctly, using it will avoid a lot of problemsAbout that configuration. In all those years I have youtube installed on my kodi setup, which is probably since the youtube addon started, I had not use the wizard once. All updates up to the very last of 6.8.x worked fine and used the existing configurations. But with 7.x, and in order to have the addon work properly, I have to go through the wizard and then change some settings here and there. I can do that in general, I just hate it if I have to do it after a major or a minor update. Let alone remember what I had selected the previous time the wizard ran... As a user who knows has used kodi since it was called xbmc and knows every menu inside out, I still find it annoying. Imagine what a less experienced user thinks. Having said all that, I tried your suggestion about enabling inpustream adaptive on 7.0.9.2 and it did work. Although I know that deep down the issue is due to some api bs, I must admit that a few days ago (maybe week) it was working fine without it. If this is the case from now on, please make the option enabled by default. RE: YouTube - MoojMidge - 2024-11-17 @doko-desuka - Sorry should have been clearer. See below. (2024-11-15, 02:39)doko-desuka Wrote: It looks like the MediaConnect client now always requires OAuth (a YT user login) to work: https://github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp/issues/...2476783658This is correct. (2024-11-15, 02:39)doko-desuka Wrote: If you're logged in to the add-on then it should still work, but I got a 403 Forbidden on some video... will have to test some more. Not sure about this. I don't think it will work because the OAuth authorisation for YouTube TV was removed from this addon, and the personal OAuth tokens don't seem to work with MEDIA_CONNECT_FRONTEND. That's what I was looking to confirm - whether the master branch I linked to, which added the OAuth auth for YouTube TV back in, allows MEDIA_CONNECT_FRONTEND to work again once logged in twice. (2024-11-16, 08:31)dtechsrv Wrote: The video durations are a bit weird in the Leia version: The fix is here: https://github.com/MoojMidge/plugin.video.youtube/commit/97951af8d7861e3f2cbe7931cfc22edeb17939e3 You can make the change yourself if you are able to do, otherwise will need to wait until the next beta release. @jim_p - the Setup Wizard in its current form was only added in v7.0.4, previously it would only configure regional settings. It was expanded in function because YouTube changes things that requires settings changes, and people were also changing settings without fully understanding the consequences of those changes. It requires a significant amount of time to provide advice about what settings to use. The option to enable InputStream.Adaptive is on by default, and it is enabled by the Setup Wizard as well, because it should normally be used. You have changed it, and now we are having to have this discussion. You may find the Setup Wizard annoying, but this is an example of why it is necessary. RE: YouTube - fatcat1337 - 2024-11-17 hi i updated to 7.1.1 tried official and non-official #1 with adaptive streaming enabled YT vids play #2 with both versions i get no audio? RE: YouTube - jim_p - 2024-11-17 @MoojMidge I agree with what you say in general, but... I watch youtube on kodi and mpv (via ytfzf and youtube-viewer), because the youtube page is horrible. All those years and on both kodi and mpv, I was watching the "format 22" of the provided videos, because it very rarely throttled (unlike the dash ones), it is on h264 whic is definitely hardware accelerated (unlike webm) and it had a decent quality for the bitrate. For those reasons, I had no use to even enable mpeg dash, let alone inputstream adaptive. When this format was killed by youtube, and because I sometimes faced throttling on dash streams, I left mpeg dash disabled and just used "format 18" for everyday watching. Only when I wanted to read something on the video, I enabled mpeg dash and selected a higher quality. And now, on top of that, and although I do not know the real reason (but I am sure it is some api bs), I also need inputstream adaptive to be enabled too, in order to have a simple playback of a video! Although I have no real issues with playback after the upgrade to 7.1.x and the enablement of inputstream adaptive, later today I will delete the addon's configuration files (except the keys) and set it up again from scratch. Tbh, it is just some weird menu entries that annoy me now. ---edit (7 hours later) Deleting everything and starting from scratch was once again a waste of time. As I already said, nothing plays unless i enable mpeg dash AND inputstream adaptive. Having none of them enabled fails to even open the option for manually selecting the quality and with only inputstream adaptive enabled I get 720p60 and no audio, despite having set the quality to lower/different than that in the settings. Thank you youtube api! The menu entries that were starting with "undefined string id: |something|" before remained this way even after the reset and even after setting kodi's locale to english. ----re-edit (9 hours after the first edit) Which of the settings changed by the wizard are considered critical for the addon to work now? I really don't want to go through the wizard process again and I really doubt if setting the region or the subtitles is of importance. Also, if a video is region blocked, because I did come up a few of those during a search, I think it should not even show up as a result. RE: YouTube - captainf - 2024-11-18 On Windows 10, i have VLC set up as an optional player from the context menu and this is working fine. However when i select support external player in the add on settings, although i get the play with option on the context menu, when i tap it nothing happens! Do i need to select either of the 2 external player options? Anyone know how to get this working? The reason i need this is that VLC outputs through my hi-fi speakers for music, whilst the Kodi player goes through my surround speakers for movies. From the (github anxdpanic) page nobody seem to have a problem. RE: YouTube - vichman - 2024-11-18 (2024-11-18, 22:13)ip-cress Wrote: Hi, Neither do I (under Raspberry Pi5 everything is OK)... You will need to provide a debug log if you require further assistance for this. Otherwise just run the Setup Wizard and try again. When you enable InputStream.Adaptive, but don't enable MPEG-DASH, then you are using the playlists/manifests directly from YouTube. This means that if you are not getting any audio then the issue you are having is not related to this plugin. Things change, no need to fight it unnecessarily.

The streams that are available without enabling MPEG-DASH are only what are provided by YouTube as-is. They definitely do have audio, but if your system can't play the audio then why choose these settings? The other quality settings may or may not apply depending on what streams are actually available to play. Just use MPEG-DASH and your problems will disappear. (2024-11-17, 13:33)jim_p Wrote: The menu entries that were starting with "undefined string id: |something|"What is "something"? I am only aware of this problem on Kodi 18 for the "live" string. (2024-11-17, 13:33)jim_p Wrote: Which of the settings changed by the wizard are considered critical for the addon to work now?None of them, unless you have changed the settings to something that won't work and now need to set them correctly. I have spent far too much time trying to explain this, and I cannot support whatever combination of settings that you choose to use that obviously don't work anymore. Just use the Setup Wizard. If you don't want to use it again, then you can always review what the actual settings are after using the Setup Wizard, and then record this manually or do a backup yourself. (2024-11-18, 18:58)captainf Wrote: although i get the play with option on the context menu, when i tap it nothing happens! Do i need to select either of the 2 external player options? This probably won't work with VLC anymore as it doesn't support the adaptive streams available through YouTube. The progressive streams are no longer available, so nothing happens when you try to use VLC as an external player. The Use YouTube website urls with external player option will allow VLC to try to process the website URL completely independent of this addon, however I am fairly sure VLC will no longer be able to do this. Try it and see what happens. The Use adaptive streaming formats with external player option won't work because VLC doesn't support those formats. If you want to use an external player with this addon, then mpv should work.
