RE: Testflight access to beta version - amasephy - 2024-12-27 If the icon is going to adopt the new vector art I’m going to have to agree with Buschel. The new art proposed by Buschel that Team Kodi wants to adopt is very jarring. The old icon is far less so. At the same time I understand the desire to make KORE and iOS Remote Apps have identical app icon branding. There must be a better solution. Maybe I can playing around in photoshop with this as well for a potential option. Here's a concept that combines the elements of both app icons. ![]() RE: Testflight access to beta version - Buschel - 2024-12-28 @amasephy, thanks for looking into this. Sadly, I lost all the dozens of drafts I did years back, and also the img uploads are gone since the image host stopped service. Could have been some inspiration as well. I still think the Kore logo is a very nice (and currently best) option. Even though it does not easily connect to the Kodi logo -- but it does, just move a triangle a bit --, it is in use for Android remote since years, and by that already known. Edit: Another concept is to keep the Kodi icon bigger and just add frames for up/down/left/right. Quick'n'dirty draft: ![]() RE: Testflight access to beta version - pkscout - 2024-12-29 I don't want to sound ungrateful for the interest, but the Kodi logo is the Kodi logo. That's the branding we, as a team have decided on, and everything except the Android remote app uses it. I haven't gotten the sense that we're looking to do a rebranding exercise, so, speaking for myself, I'm not in favor of having a different logo for the two remote apps from everything else we have. If we're going to change the Android app logo, then it should match everything else. Otherwise I'd just leave it be. RE: Testflight access to beta version - Buschel - 2024-12-29 Thanks for sharing your point of view. If I understood you right, you like to avoid introducing something new. I am fine with this, and this makes the next steps easier. So, letting the iOS App use the Android App‘s logo would be fine. Also, simply using the Kodi logo would be ok, accepting that might cause confusion, if both Kodi and Remote App are installed on the same system. I am fine with both, with a preference for the Android remote logo from my side. I totally share and support @Buschel‘s point of view, especially with a uniform Kodi design in mind. With more than five million installations, the Android Remote logo is already widely known and established and thus should become also the icon for the iOS App. RE: Testflight access to beta version - pkscout - 2024-12-30 (2024-12-29, 15:54)Buschel Wrote: Thanks for sharing your point of view. I'm saying either change the Android remote app icon to use the same icon the iOS remote app does (i.e. the Kodi logo) or don't change anything for either app. RE: Testflight access to beta version - Buschel - 2024-12-30 Ok, then I misinterpreted your comment. But there is a problem with the current iOS App logo. First, it isn’t exactly using the Kod logo, but also uses a variation of it, where the outer parts (up/down/left/right) are highlighted against the inner part (which uses transparency). The idea was to highlight the remote control character, and have a slightly different logo to avoid same icons for Kodi and Kodi Remote on same device. Second, the inner part transparency now causes trouble with the new iOS feature to support dark/light/tinted logos. Reason being, that users did not recognized this desired highlighting before, and now complain about faulty icons. So, in my opinion we must change the iOS App icon. Question is: which logo to use. Obviously you prefer the unchanged Kodi logo then. To at least have a differentiation between Kodi and Kodi remote the remote App could use the Kodi logo in white on top of Kodi-blue background. Benefits:
Would this work? And we would then use that for the Android remote as well (next time it gets updated anyway). I'll check with the Team to confirm. I will now update the -- already existing PR -- with the new icons and mark it ready-for-review. Another question: Is the Zappy mascot still actively used around Kodi? The iOS Remote App still uses it at one place. I tend to remove this, as I am not seeing this used anymore, but wanted to double check. Looking at the wiki, the last Zappy image was created in 2013. I didn't even know Zappy was a thing, and I've been on the team right around a decade. I think it's safe to remove it from the iOS app. RE: Testflight access to beta version - Buschel - 2024-12-31 (2024-12-31, 21:13)pkscout Wrote: I think it's safe to remove it from the iOS app. Thanks for the quick response. I think the same and applied the change for the AppInfo view. Only „problem“ is that Zappy is mentioned in localized strings, so an update of all translations will be required now. It is a good time for this though, as we just released a version and have plenty of time until next one is due. RE: Testflight access to beta version - UlfSchmidt - 2025-01-01 I remember that I asked for the removal of this fancy figure from the iOS App already years ago, go to see Zappy go eventually. Also good to see that my ideas of harmonizing the icons across all platforms has been agreed on so quickly. A big thumbs up to all involved persons. Have a happy new year everyone! RE: Testflight access to beta version - Buschel - 2025-01-02 In the meanwhile first issues pop up with 1.16. It makes a difference, if few hundred installations run via TF, or a several thousand via an official release. Four crashes were seen, which definitely came in during last months and were just not observed yet (3x "Play using..." and 1x after scrolling in an active playlist). Depending on how often this pops up, we should do a hot fix release. There are 4 relevant fixes already - Two crash fixes - Menu config to allow queue/play for addon folders - Hide "resume" for Kodi 11 and earlier - Color fix for Kodi blue |
