How to access Kodi Home Folder on Android 11? - Sholander - 2022-04-13

I seem to have a problem accessing Kodi Home folder:  /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi on my Odroid N2 running Kodi Nexus on Android ATV 11 OS, with Kodi File manager.
Everything within /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/ is not accessible with Kodi file manager, although it can be accessed with X-Plore.app . I understand that it's Android's security feature. What I don't understand is why a phone security feature should be enforced on media player devices running Android ATV OS.
So, is there a way to bypass this phone feature on Odroid N2?

Have you enabled Show hidden files and directories in Kodi?

RE: How to access Kodi Home Folder on Android 11? - Sholander - 2022-04-13

Yes, of course. I'm a long time Kodi user and know how to go about it. The same Kodi version on the same Odroid N2 work OK on Android 9 ATV and Android 10 ATV. But not on Android 11 ATV.

Hello,

I am having the same issue.  If I try to browse beyond /storage/emulated/0/Android/data/ the Kodi file browser will not let me.  I reverted back to the latest Leia release and it works as expected and I can see all the files and folders.  I also have the "show hidden files..." option enabled in Kodi's settings. I am using the latest Matrix release on a Shield 2017.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Ken

It's the same for me, the Kodi file manager will not let me browse past /storage/emulated/0/Android/data. This is on a Shield Pro 2019 with SE 9.0.2.

However, the Kodi file manager should also have an entry called "Profile directory" which points to a source called "special://profile" and that will get you where you want.

Thanks for the reply.  I will have to try that.  I also found this link which shows how to change the location of the Kodi data folder to somewhere that is not blocked by Android 11.  I tried this and it worked great.  A bit of a hack but it's working for me Smile

Yet....how programs do update or write into those data and obb folders ?
There are needs that may be not circumvented without direct access to data folder unless....
may I ask kodi to install to a specific folder so data folder is installed in an unprotected path ?
Thank you

I don't know how to set a different path for Kodi in Android, but I use a separate File Manager (X-File Manager) to do any editing on Kodi data files. You can also enable the Nvidia Shield's SMB file server with which you can access all the Shield's files.

Hi.
I use KODI 20.1 Nexus and I had this problem when I updated my TV box H96 MAX RK3318 to Android 11, but I got to solve it by 02 steps:
1- I installed com.android.documentsui apk (t_frc_doc_330443060);
2- I installed Zarchive apk from GooglePlay.
By Zarchive file manager I got to access the /storage/0/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi folder and paste all the subfolders from the backup that I made.
Then it was just reboot the TV box and KODI to have it the same as it was working in Android 10.

some really good ideas here, but I am trying to tell kodi where my movies and tv shows are located through the media item in settings.  I guess I could move them to a usb drive and access it that way, but I don't own one to test if this is viable or not.  So unless there is a xml file I can edit to "force" the location then android 11 killed kodi for me.

kodi's home folder has nothing to do with media sources

recheck what you are trying to do - https://kodi.wiki/view/Adding_video_sources

Not sure how to edit on this site, but I figured it out.  There is a file called sources.xml on my "old" Kodi build I just used that as a reference point and modified it to the android location and viola the movie and tv shows showed in the media section after restarting and I was able to scrape them into the library.

This worked for me after agonizing over different ways that people were claiming would work. Not even the Kodi file manager would work. I have a BuzzTV X5 64AI Media player with Android 11 installed. I finally downloaded Solid Explorer and you can click on FTP in this file browser which connected me to my Desktop PC. When I went into Network places the X5 64AI was there and I clicked on it and it showed a folder named internal. After clicking on this I could click on android and all the way through to the Kodi Userdata file. It let me paste a Playercorefactory.xml file in there so I can now use MX Player Pro. It has let me modify files and delete files also. I have complete control over all of the Kodi folders. Took a long time to figure it out but it worked great! Good Luck!

RE: How to access Kodi Home Folder on Android 11? - tele - 2024-02-24

This may not work either, because if the application itself cannot access the folder on the device, setting up an FTP server will not help either.
One of the user on another forum suggested using the File Manager built into KODI - you need to add the path "special://home" as the source, which will correspond to "/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files /.kodi/". This will work because KODI needs to have access to its folder, and you don't have to go through "/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/".
I tried it on my phone, so I confirm it works.

yes, i have been telling people this

an extra instruction has been needed for some users which is - in order to enter the special path you need to click the line marked "<none>" and then you can enter the path manually
i suppose it isn't as obvious to some
