Kodi and Synology Nas dsm 7.2 - stapper56 - 2023-06-28 Hello there, I'm not sure I put this one in the right topic. I run kodi with a central DB on my syno nas with maria db. Now a major update is coming from 7.1 to 7.2 (dsm) I saw that problems where on my way with that one, so I waited with the update. I was right, lot of problems with Kodi on a NAS. phpmyadmin, and maria DB will be updated to. So here are my questions:
best regards jan. RE: Kodi and Synology Nas dsm 7.2 - wags1 - 2023-06-28 @stapper56 My DSM on my DS220+ updated yesterday. No problems with the MariaDB Kodi DB's. One thing to note is that while the DSM 7.2 update process does automatically update most of your installed packages that need to be updated it does not automatically update all of them. Specific to this discussion, it does not automatically update phpMyAdmin and MariaDB. You will have to login to your NAS after the DSM 7.2 update process completes and manually update them (actually you click on "repair" but that updates them). RE: Kodi and Synology Nas dsm 7.2 - stapper56 - 2023-06-28 @wags1 Thanks mate. Just to make sure, I make a few backups of the 2 databases kodi has made. I saw a few people that had some problems, could not play movies, but I think they used SMB, and SMB I think caused that problems. I use NFS, so fingers crossed this weekend I will update the 920+ from 7.1 to 7.2 RE: Kodi and Synology Nas dsm 7.2 - Klojum - 2023-06-28 My DSM still runs 7.1.1,not planning on going to 7.2 yet. Also not using it for the databases, those remain on a linux PC with an ssd. Still having a problem with Kodi's internal NFS routines, system mounts give no problems. RE: Kodi and Synology Nas dsm 7.2 - stapper56 - 2023-06-28 @Klojum I had it running with SMB once, but NFS was in my opinion much faster. I'm not in a hurry to go to dsm 7.2 thought I make a topic over here and see if kodi/nas users went to dsm 7.2 and if they had troubles or not. If so, it's nice to have some experiences here so we can all learn from them. About DSM 7.2 where I look forward to is WORM... Some people prefer SMB, others like NFS, "YMMV". I've been using NFS with Kodi since the very beginning (With XBMC Eden..), using Ubuntu Linux as the file server until recently, and never looked back as it just worked. RE: Kodi and Synology Nas dsm 7.2 - stapper56 - 2023-06-29 @Klojum If it ain't broken, don't fix it, they say. Reason I like kodi so much with a central db on the nas, is because my android tv runs as OS Android. So I just had to get the Kodi app, and transfer the source and advancedsettings.xml to it and it runs. Benefits for me are the that I operate it all with the remote control of my tv. And in my case with NFS its super fast, click and the movie runs... with SMB there was a slight delay. I think I hold on with DSM 7.2 until I see people that have Kodi running with 7.2 Better save then sorry. RE: Kodi and Synology Nas dsm 7.2 - DarrenHill - 2023-06-29 I also updated mine yesterday to 7.2 and aside from the need to log in and repair phpmyadmin and mariadb, it's working fine. The change from Docker to Container Manager was a bit more of a surprise, but all looks ok there too and I'd missed it in the docs. Seeing Docker labelled as unsupported was a bit of an eyeopener. RE: Kodi and Synology Nas dsm 7.2 - stapper56 - 2023-06-29 That's good to know. Mine is not running in docker, tv has android... RE: Kodi and Synology Nas dsm 7.2 - wags1 - 2023-06-29 @stapper56 Don’t think you will have any problems. After I updated phpMyAdmin and MariaDB it was completely transparent from a Kodi perspective. Been running a bit over a week now with zero issues. RE: Kodi and Synology Nas dsm 7.2 - stapper56 - 2023-06-30 @wags1 that's good to hear. I think I do the update next week. RE: Kodi and Synology Nas dsm 7.2 - _bowdie - 2023-12-18 Hi, how can I install Kodi on my Synology NAS? Is there any instructions here? At the moment I can't find it. Thanks in advance, Bowdie RE: Kodi and Synology Nas dsm 7.2 - wags1 - 2023-12-18 (2023-12-18, 20:42)_bowdie Wrote: Hi, The discussion here is about running the library DBs on a Synology NAS using MariaDB. Most folks use their Synology NAS to store all their media files (movies, TV shows, music) and their library data files. Not sure how or why you would run Kodi itself on a Synology NAS. RE: Kodi and Synology Nas dsm 7.2 - _bowdie - 2023-12-18 Thanks for your quick response. Of course I use the synology to store all my files. On the other hand u can also install other apps (like nextcloud etc.) Now I search for a media server and found different possibilities (Plex,Emby,Jellyfin). My favorite is still Kodi so I want to know is it possible and how. cu Bowdie RE: Kodi and Synology Nas dsm 7.2 - izprtxqkft - 2023-12-18 (2023-12-18, 23:09)_bowdie Wrote: Now I search for a media server and found different possibilities (Plex,Emby,Jellyfin). kodi is not a media "server" so there's your answer of course anything is possible with enough technical know-how but it is not the intended function of kodi and as such not recommended largely useless to do so as well unless you're going to hook your tv to your NAS then most of kodi's functionality will be lost (and if you do hook it up to the TV i bet it won't have any hardware acceleration and playback will be terrible) |
