A Small Measure of Success! - edbro - 2010-12-21

My upgrade was so messed up I decided to start fresh. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the usb stick to boot. Finally, after trying 3 different sticks, I finally found one that worked. All 3 are good sticks but only one was able to boot properly.

So, moral of the story is if you are having problems creating a bootable usb drive, keep trying different ones.

Looking at the first post in this thread it says you need to add nvidia drivers to the iso image. That was for last year's version; is this still necessary with Dharma? Or, can I download them after installing?

If I need to add them to the iso, where would I find them? Are they just the standard 32bit Linux drivers for Ion notebook that I see on the Nvidia site?

I am having sound issues as well Sad
Revo 3610 is running fine but I cannot get any sound from my 3600

Anyone have any revelations? I have unmuted every setting in audio mixer and tried every combination Of things in the sound settings but still nothing Sad

thanks, i just tried upgrading to xbmc-live-10 using unetbootin but it wont boot. it keeps dropping me to a busybox shell complaining about "Can not mount /dev/loop0 (/live/image/live/filesystem.squashfs) on //filesystem.squashfs". this is the same usb drive i used for xbmc-live-9.

if you can get to a terminal try running alsamixer and make sure all the spdif's are unmuted.

i think the nvidia drivers are rolled into the iso; else it would be the driver for this on the nvidia website:
Code:
[schneidz@hyper ~]$ lspci | grep ION
03:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation ION LE VGA (rev b1)

Yep, I did the install tonight and the drivers seem fine. No audio though. I'm making progress slowly but surely.

please check out this thread

the first steps solved my audio problems, but I also did the nvidia upgrades anyways. I notice during nvidia upgrade steps you are pulling down a new asound.conf

takes a little tinkering. I dont have mine set to 5.1 since I'm only doing HDMI to tv audio, and I also dont have Dolby Digital AC3 enabled.

so my Audio output tab looks like.
Audio output : HMDI
Speaker Config : 2.0
Boost volume : enabled.
Dobly Digital AC3 : disabled
DTS : enabled.
Audio output device : hdmi
Psssthrough output device : hdmi

Thank you, there was something in that update that did it for me. I ran the update without changing any settings and my system now has audio. Even the menu sounds work.

Go back a page in this thread and you will your answer. This has been discussed fully and if you would only read a bit it would help.

Edit:

download the xbmc-live iso and use unetbootin to put it a bootable usb. boot the revo (i think it is f12 to select which drive to boot from). if you have issues, post the sepcific problem here (or start a new thread).

It appears he got it installed. But, like the rest of us, no sound. He needs to run the update commands in the post I pointed him to.
