[Linux] No Vdpau option XBMC SVN (r21676) UBUNTU 9.04 on ASRock ION 330 - dev_don - 2009-07-14

I recently installed XBMC on Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty on the ASRock ION 330. Its currently overclocked to 2.1 Ghz with 1.5gb of ram and 512 of Video Memory.

....Followed all the instructions for Babylon and turned on VDPAU in player render options and everything was hunky-dory. But I updated XBMC to the latest SVN (r21676) from http://www.sshcs.com/xbmc/ - and now the option for VDPAU is not there?!

I wanted to know if I put it on auto that it will be automatically on - the options I get for rendering are now: Software; GLSL; ARB and auto.

I have submitted a debug log and I played a Iplayer HD stream in its highest quality which is 720p and it seemed fine and droped 6 frames at the start and thats it. I have also included some screenshots so you can see the debug at the top of the screen. Then I played an AVI and it seemed fine also (screens included too).

Maybe I'm just a paranoid barsteward but I want to know if VDPAU is enabled as I plan to watch 1080p videos once I get a HD screen.

------------------------------------

Also just a quick note is anyone having problems with ubuntu 9.04 in regard the sound muting on restart it seems to happen quite Frequently to me.

I followed this: http://webupd8.blogspot.com/2009/06/sound-muted-after-restart-in-ubuntu.html - But im unsure what he means by "And add alsactl restore there. Also, make it executable" -- Im an Linux N00B so I usually need and exact and precise step by step.

As I use XBMC standalone I have to change session and turn up the PCM sound - bloody annoying I tell you!? HuhLaugh

If anyone can Help I would appreciate it, thanks in advance.

My bet is that "unofficial" version has vdpau simply disabled in it's configure setup.

thanks for the reply haggy.

Is there any way to enable it, such as editing a file?

- Haggy - 2009-07-14

Nope. it has to be done at compile time. no chance on a binary. What reason made you install exactly this version and not the "official" SVN PPAs for Ubuntu?

- dev_don - 2009-07-14

quick answer because im a NOOB. Laugh

Im not sure how to install the official svn ppas and the unofficial one was simply a .deb file (im too used to Windows so i prefered the easyway ..doubleclicking it)

How do I go about installing the official svn ?

- dev_don - 2009-07-14

sorry i think i misunderstood the official svn's do not have the updates from trac until there are all considered stable? - is that correct.

I wanted the new XBMC version due to the media tags feature such as SD, HD 720p and so on

Read over here: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=33327

EDIT: They're built on a more or less weekly basis. No point in having always the latest and greatest SVN Head as they tend to break sometimes

Thanks for the help haggy
