Add sort by date added on movies library mode? - BigBlack - 2009-09-25

Hi guys, most user i think would like to have in the movies library the option to sort them by date added... Can you add it? Thank you!! Bye

there is an latest added movies entry in your library, isnt that enough?

- spiff - 2009-09-28

we don't store the date in the db.... the information is simply not available atm

Well, I can see reasons for having it. For me recently added really isn't enough. I add movies at a faster rate than I can watch them, so the end up getting pushed off the recently added list.

That's too bad. It would be nice if it were added at some point. It's not like it's a real high priority though.

I only have this option with library mode deactivated.... But file view it's not a good layout to share movies... Also for more fuction of some skin that are not available in file view mode...

Yes i think so.. It's a real high priority for me and i think for much other... I also add more movies... more than can i see... so at least it's not easy to find last movie added.. above all because i'm not the only user.. so i can remember a bit last added but the other user can't...

You have this option in the Video Library (at least in the default PM3.HD skin)
try to open the "Recently added Movies" library node.

if its such a high priority, do it and submit a diff.

- BigBlack - 2009-09-29

yes I know that it's here but for not so expert user it's not user friendly... This is used also by my parents and for them it's yet difficult like this... However if you tell me what file I need to modify to add this option... I can try... I need the file of file view so i try to cut and copy the block of sort by date and the file of library mode.. Or it's the same file? However where can i find them?

- sho - 2009-09-30

Have you actually looked at the "Recently added Movies" library node?

- BigBlack - 2009-09-30

yes but it isn't the same.... there i can see only few movies... So if I want to see movies added most day before i can't see them... I don't see what's difficult... It's like window... Sort by date... What's difference beetween library and files... nothing.. So why library don't have this option? However if you tell me where to find files to modify i try myself... Thank you

1) VideoDatabase.cpp to store the field as well as the code for storing the fields when stuff is added
2) SortFileItem.cpp to setup the sorting code
3) GUIViewStateVideo.cpp to add the sorting option to the window

if you want to sort by file date (a diff i will reject from svn inclusion) you can just do part 2&3) there.

Can XBMC access file attributes? It could be handled by looking at the last modified date of the file, right?

- spiff - 2009-10-02

of course - but that's the diff i said i would reject

I thought I had seen this thread. Laugh

Video Library: Sort By date added or created of file!

IMHO there are attributes that made logical - consistent - sense in the Library Mode and some others that made sense in File Mode.

Edit: Oh, I now realize why I sensed this deja vu

I don't understand why some people are so against having a file date sort criteria, especially in the library.

Its way more useful than library added date, especially when you have to rescan your library from scratch or dealing with multiple xbmc installations that are scanned at different times (and thus could have different files scanned in different orders).
