Do you just chose the nuvotron one and then none for the next bit? You posted 2 files plus the md5s- which one do I use (am using 64-bit ubuntu).

Sorry I know I'm a bit of a noob but am trying to get this sorted so it works properly.

Sorry I know I'm a bit of a noob but am trying to get this sorted so it works properly.

I just did this
PHP Code:
wget http://wal.uni.cx/xbmc/lirc-nct677x-1.0.0-ubuntu9.10.deb
sudo dpkg -i lirc-nct677x-1.0.0-ubuntu9.10.deb
on my system the first time lirc configuration comes up it did not have the nuvotron driver in the list, Just select none for both receiver and transmitter.
Then the configuration will appear again and you can select nuvotron as the receiver and in my case none for transmitter.

Then type irw and see if it lists the buttons as you press them.

However, you are just asking for trouble using 64-bit and as such I can not confirm if it does work on ubuntu 64bit.

The driver comes as a patch, I think. As far as I understand it patches lirc and the kernel. Some people already report problems with jaunty, so 64 bits might also generate problems.

My installation workd flawlessly with your commands. There's some other file that seem to be the sources for the driver, so that might be the starting point for new driver packages versions.

What is strange is that booting up by remote has stopped working, and I was and am know a keyboardless man that cannot access the setup menu.

Happy Christmas

You're the third now reporting this problem. Right after install my booting up stopped working too. So it has to have something to do with the driver!

I did not have any remote previously installed. Perhaps mceusb or what lirc is set to by default in xbmc-live. The strange thing is that it worked ONE time.

I had the asrock in suspended mode. And when i tried to start it again it didn't react on keyboard-presses. So I pushed the Power-button on the front of the Asrock and it woke up. But now the remote worked? After the next reboot it didn't anymore though.

This makes me think perhaps the driver or lirc-modules is loaded to early or wrong runlevel perhaps. I dont know. Or perhaps my IR-chip is defect. I dont really know anything about lirc so its hard to troubleshoot.

Sometimes I see a post in /var/log/messages about lirc_wb677_CIR activated/deactivated.

Can anyone with a working CIR please post some logs etc, see if they look the same?

Read my post here:
http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?p=463638&post463638

Ow, and It does work when you save the Wake on CIR setting in your bios, and then hold the off button on your Asrock after exiting the bios. You can now turn the Asrock on with the remote, but when you reboot it won't work anymore.

- keoma - 2009-12-22

Another question. Were you guys able to POWER ON the Asrock via the remote? That should have nothing to do with the drivers imho, if the chip and bios is working, that should work out of the box?

- generator - 2009-12-22

Yes, it worked before. Somehow when the driver loads, it resets the setting in you bios.

- keoma - 2009-12-22

Your power-on-trick worked for me generator. Then atleast the chip is not defect Smile Doesnt work in linux though

- keoma - 2009-12-22

Generator: Ok it works in linux now? This is strange. What I did was disable the CIR device in bios. Exit save. Enable CIR in bios, exit save. Power off. Power on with remote. And it seems to be working.

- generator - 2009-12-22

It only works once when you follow the steps. It gets reset when you start Ubuntu.

- keoma - 2009-12-22

Yes but my problem is the Enable CIR-device-setting seems to get disabled so the remote wont work at all unless I follow those steps?

- keoma - 2009-12-22

Also, the remote seems kinda buggy. I need to hold down the button for 1-2 seconds before the my button presses registers. Is this normal?
